The Supreme Court is expected to deliver Friday its much-awaited verdict on one of India's most high-profile legal battles between companies led by the two Ambani brothers, Mukesh and Anil, over natural gas supplies from the Krishna-Godavari basin.

Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, Friday assured gas supplies from the Krishna-Godavari basin to power-generation firms led by younger brother Anil and hoped for "harmonious" ties between the two groups in the future.

Burying their differences, the respective Reliance groups led by brothers Mukesh and Anil Ambani Sunday said they have entered into a new and simpler non-compete pact that will help resolve the Krishna-Godavari gas dispute.

The Supreme Court Friday said the government was the undisputed owner of natural resources and had the right to fix its price. It was delivering the verdict on the dispute over Krishna-Godavari gas between companies led by the two Ambani brothers, Mukesh and Anil.

Godawari Power & Ispat Ltd. (GPIL), a listed company, is going to acquire the power undertaking of its unlisted associate company, Jagdamba Power and Alloys Ltd. (JPAL). It is going to be an all stock deal. Earlier in 2018, the companies had tried to amalgamate JPAL into GPIL but the shareholders of JPAL had rejected the scheme. Now in a renewed effort, GPIL has again knocked the doors of JPAL to meet its power needs.
