Speaking of socks, everyone is familiar with them. "Shuowen" said: "Pan [interpretation of the same as"socks", w_], footwear is also."

The earliest socks, mainly play the role of foot protection, and socks made of animal skin can play a similar role to shoes.

With the progress of history and the development of productivity, various kinds of socks appear, which make people want to stop socks. The decorative role of beautiful socks feet is becoming more and more important.

Nowadays, many functional socks have been developed, such as medical varicose socks and anti-bacterial and odor-proof socks for the treatment of varicose veins.

So how on earth has socks developed step by step so far? Let's take a look.

    Evolutionary History of Socks

The word "socks" was first found in the Annotation of Ancient and Modern China, which said, "Three generations and Zhou Zuojiao bangs [ancient socks: tie, tie, read W bracelets for self-knotting] to tie to the ankle."

"Three Generations" refers to Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, which have a history of 34,000 years.

The "horn" should be the original socks made of animal skins, so the "horn" should be written.

I think this sock should not be very comfortable. Now I'm afraid it would violate the wildlife protection law if I want to wear it.

Later, with the emergence of textiles, socks were developed from animal cloth to cloth, linen and silk, and the word "di" was changed to "socks" accordingly. Finally, it was simplified to what we call "socks" step by step.

The evolution process of the word "socks" actually contains the development process of Chinese civilization history, from animal skins to linen and silk, reflecting the development and progress of clothing materials in China.

    1. Xia, Shang and Western Zhou Dynasties

The socks in Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties were triangular, belonging to lace socks, which could only be put on the feet, and then tied to the ankles with ropes. This kind of socks lasted until the Han Dynasty. It feels like wearing shoes today. It's cumbersome and troublesome.

"Han Feizi" once wrote: "King Wen Vachong, to Fenghuang (Huang) Ruins, socks tied, because of self-knotting. This means that King Wen of Zhou conscribed Chongguo and tied his Garters in Phoenix Ruins.

In the late Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms Period, triangular socks began to be replaced by socks similar to today's form.

    2. Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties

Socks in the Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties were mostly made of linen, silk and ripe leather. Legend has it that Cao Pi, Emperor Wei Wendi, had a beautiful and intelligent concubine. She felt that her stockings were clumsy, ugly and inconvenient to wear. She tried to weave them with sparse and soft silk, and changed the shape of stockings from triangle to modern socks.

This concubine is now a designer, leading the fashion trend.

As a result, socks from the past "add-on" to stick to the foot of the "attachment" and more humanized. Of course, such stories may not be credible, but silk socks, called stockings, did appear at this time.

Cao Zhi's famous article "Luo Shenfu" describes this kind of socks: "Lingbo Weibu, Luo socks dust."

    3. Tang and Song Dynasties

The socks of the aristocrats in the Tang Dynasty were mostly made of brocade. In Tang Fengzhi's Records of Pearls, one brocade sock was left by Empress Yang after her death: "On the day of her death, one brocade sock was given by Empress Yang."

In the Song Dynasty, pantyhose appeared. From the silk women's pantyhose unearthed in De'an, Jiangxi Province, this kind of sock is generally round-headed, open behind the hammer, and nailed with two ribbons. There is a circumferential silk thread sewn at the bottom of the foot of the sock. The silk thread is woven into the bottom of the sock, which is somewhat similar to the silk socks worn by modern ladies.

Because of the popularity of footbinding, pointed socks designed for small feet also appeared in Song Dynasty. Foot binding has foot binding cloth, followed by the design of a non-sock bottom "half socks", wearable can be wrapped in the tibia, up to the knee, down to the ankle. By the Ming and Qing Dynasties, this kind of semi-socks developed into "leg-binding" for women with small feet.

    4. Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties

The innovation and development of handicraft technology will also affect the material quality of socks. Huang Daopo is a well-known cotton textile artist in the late Song and early Yuan Dynasty. She promoted cotton spinning technology and advanced textile tools. She is an outstanding textile technological innovator in the thirteenth century. After cotton was widely planted in Yuan Dynasty, socks were made of cotton cloth.

Socks made of cloth and cotton were mostly worn by the upper class at that time, so they were symbols of status and social status to a certain extent.

The handicraft industry developed gradually in the middle and late Ming Dynasty, which was reflected in the increasing number of handicraft workshops, namely family workshops. Socks production was also the promoter of its development.

There is a summer sock street in the main urban area of Chengdu, named for the thin cloth socks worn in the summer days of Ming and Qing Dynasties. According to Fan Lian of the Ming Dynasty, in his book "Cloud between Clouds According to Eye Notes", many people wore felt socks in the summer months at the old Sunless Socks Store in Songjiang.

Ever since the Wanli Dynasty, "with your dumpling socks, extremely light and beautiful, people from afar are competing for them." This shows that summer socks flourished in the Ming Dynasty. This street in Chengdu was also a shop with felt socks. Later, because of the promotion and dissemination of lightweight and cool Youdun socks, it began to produce thin cloth socks, commonly known as summer socks.

Because cloth socks sell well, shops increase, and wear summer socks for a long time, so called this street famous summer socks street.
