The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), Division of Research, Innovation and Ventures (DRIVe) is releasing this ÂœDRIVe Accelerator Network Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applicants interested in working with BARDA DRIVe to stimulate the public good by creating or leveraging a network of accelerators across America to promote national health security innovation. In order to address the serious 21st century health threats facing our nation, BARDA DRIVe invests in innovative products (therapies, vaccines, diagnostics, and devices), technologies and tools in order to increase our capability and capacity to respond. Collectively, these will be referred to as health security products and technologies. Applicants who enter agreements with BARDA will become members of the Accelerator Network to: Support BARDA DRIVe health security products and technologies as they navigate research, development, and regulatory pathways; Provide wrap-around services to assist the R&D efforts (such as technical and business advice, access to facilities and incubator spaces, integration services);

The centers funded will: Be national resources for the teaching of improved business techniques, strategies, and methodologies that emphasize the international context in which business is transacted; Provide instruction in critical foreign languages and international fields needed to provide an understanding of the cultures and customs of U.S. trading partners; Provide research and training in the international aspects of trade, commerce, and other fields of study; Provide training to students enrolled in the institution or institutions in which a center is located; Serve as regional resources to local businesses by offering programs and providing research designed to meet the international training needs of such businesses; and Serve other faculty, students, and institutions of higher education located within their respective regions.

The SBIR program is congressionally mandated and intended to support scientific excellence and technological innovation through the investment of federal research funds to build a strong national economy by: stimulating technological innovation in the private sector; strengthening the role of small business in meeting federal research and development needs; increasing the commercial application of federally supported research results; and fostering and encouraging participation by socially and economically disadvantaged and women-owned small businesses. The SBIR program solicits proposals from the small business sector consistent with NSF's mission to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; and to secure the national defense.

I-Corps@Ohio is a statewide program developed to assist faculty, staff and students from Ohio universities, colleges and community colleges in validating the market potential of technologies and launching startup companies. I-Corps@Ohio is modeled after the National Science Foundation's (NSF) successful I-Corps (Innovation Corps) program, which has been proven to increase innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry collaboration. The I-Corps@Ohio program incorporates lean launch, customer discovery and business model innovation methodologies to assess technologies, enhance the business acumen of research faculty and students and expand their entrepreneurial network relationships. Two cohort tracks are offered in Science & Engineering and Medtech, with each designed to offer both common and subject matter specific content. The long-term objective of I-Corps@Ohio is to systematically build a steady and predictable pipeline of  high-quality, high-growth startups from technology developed at the State's colleges, universities, and research institutions, that contribute to economic development in Ohio.

Amendment 1 to the NASA ARMD Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (ROA) 2019 NRA has been posted on the NSPIRES site. University Student Research Challenge (solicitation NNH19ZEA001N-USRC) seeks to challenge students to propose new aeronautics ideas/concepts that are relevant to NASA Aeronautics. USRC will provide students, from accredited U.S. colleges or universities, with grants for their projects and it includes the challenge of raising a modest amount of cost share funds through crowdfunding platform. The process of creating and preparing a crowdfunding campaign acts as a teaching accelerator - requiring students to act like entrepreneurs and taking action. Crowdfunding also raises awareness about students' research among the public. The solicitation goal can be accomplished through project ideas such as advancing the design, developing technology or capabilities in support of aviation, by demonstrating a novel concept, or enabling advancement of aeronautics-related technologies. There have been a number of changes from the previous USRC pilot project, including NASA providing a larger share of funds and half of that being provided upfront. Notices of Intent (NOIs) are not required for this solicitation. Proposals can be submitted at any time and will be evaluated in three cycles: October 30, 2019, February 26, 2020, and June 24, 2020.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to advance translational research for rare musculoskeletal, rheumatic or skin diseases by supporting preclinical projects conducted by small business concerns (SBCs) to develop biomarkers and/or therapies. The 2010 Institute of Medicine Report "Rare Diseases and Orphan Products: Accelerating Research and Development" (https://www.nap.edu/read/12953/chapter/1) called for active involvement and collaboration by the public and private sectors, and emphasized the role of NIH in integrating various stake holders into a comprehensive strategy for supporting all phases of rare diseases research. NIAMS supports research on rare diseases and orphan drugs through various grant mechanisms including research project grants, center awards and training/career development awards. SBCs play an important role in disease research by developing innovative technologies and increasing the commercial application of federally supported research results. However, it can be more challenging for SBCs to achieve profitability in rare diseases research and development due to inherent scientific risks and market limitations caused by the small number of individuals affected by each disease. With this FOA, NIAMS intends to support and enhance research and development conducted by SBCs that may lead to important biomarkers and/or treatments for rare musculoskeletal, rheumatic or skin diseases.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) applications from small business concerns (SBCs) that seek additional funding to support the next stage of development for cancer-relevant projects that were previously funded under SBIR or STTR Phase II awards from any Federal agency. The purpose of this FOA is to facilitate the transition of SBIR or STTR Phase II projects to the commercialization stage. This FOA is expected to promote partnerships between Federally-funded SBIR or STTR Phase II awardees and third-party investors and/or strategic partners to facilitate and accelerate the capital-intensive steps that are required to commercialize new products and services. Applicants must submit a Commercialization Plan, which should include details on any independent third-party investor funding that has already been secured or is anticipated during the Phase IIB Bridge Award project period. It is expected that the level of this independent third-party funding will be equal to or greater than the NCI funds being requested throughout the Phase IIB Bridge Award project period. Proposed projects may address preclinical and/or clinical stages of technology development. Clinical trials may be proposed as appropriate but are not required.

The John Z. Duling Grant Program was established and funded by a bequest from the estate of John Z. Duling of Indiana, a strong advocate of research who in 1972 proposed the establishment of the ISA Research Trust. The goal of this program is to provide start-up or seed funding to support innovative research and technology transfer projects that have the potential of benefiting the everyday work of arborists. John Z. Duling Grants may be used to support exploratory work in the early stages of untested, but potentially transformative, research ideas and approaches. Examples may include application of new approaches to research questions, or application of new expertise involving novel disciplinary or interdisciplinary perspectives. Projects are expected to be completed within one to three years with a maximum grant award of $25,000. No project may receive more than one award from this program. Due to the similarity of the Jack Kimmel International Grant and John Z. Duling Grant, applicants may submit to only one of these programs per annual project funding cycle. Note Well:  In 2020, TREE Fund's John Z. Duling Grant program will be focused specifically on urban forest management. The Laura Bassi Scholarship was established by Editing Press in 2018 with the aim of providing editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed, within their disciplines.
