I Need My Teachers to Learn - 1 views

  • a new song and video about the need to teachers to change their methods to meet the needs of today's students.
  •
From the song: "Prepare us for our future, and not your past." I want to show this video to the folks at my institution who resist using technology in their teaching. Preparing students for their future includes preparing them to be able to pick up and learn new technologies quickly. It's not the technology itself that students need to learn - what's current today will be obsolete in a few years; it's the willingness and ability to learn a new one as needed.

You are right, Carol. This is becoming a vital issue--teachers have never been noted for eagerness ti change, but without use of technology, we are not only not reaching more students, but we are, in too many cases, negating possible education. The students, too, must step up to current technological changes and feel comfortable with where they are headed.

This is an web-based authoring tool that allows one to create an interactive lesson, and export it as a SCORM 2004 or SCORM 1.2 object which can be imported into a LMS. One can add a variety of media such as voice, text, video, and still images. One can also import a PowerPoint presentation. An interesting feature is that one can intersperse assessment screens to check student learning. Assessments can be graded or non-graded.

News: Hitting Pause on Class Videos - Inside Higher Ed - 0 views

  •
"Copyright law does include exemptions for professors who wish to use audiovisual media "in the course of face-to-face teaching activities of a nonprofit educational institution, in a classroom or similar place devoted to instruction" - so long as the professor is not showing media that he or she knows has been made illegally. The university said streaming the video on a password-protected Web site, where only students who are registered members of the class can access it, satisfies these criteria. But the trade group is arguing that a password-protected space on the Web is not a classroom. "The face-to-face teaching exemption allows a video to be played in class, not streamed to the classroom from a remote location," Dohra said in an e-mail."

  • Understanding how we "organize our knowledge" means to understand our theory. That’s what theory is: the summary and synthesis of what is known about a field. It is the reduction of our knowledge to the basic ideas, presented in a way that shows their underlying patterns and relationships. Understanding theory makes it possible for us to speak with a common vocabulary. Understanding it should have the effect of helping practitioners see where their piece of the action fits and interfaces with others and thus should lead to better ways of working with others. The theory also helps us understand what we don’t know and, therefore, is the only guide to research.
