  • Collaboration in the past was limited at best, due to the costly restraints of time and space. Districts needed to pay for travel and provide time away from the job, which limited the amount of collaboration possible. This excluded a great number of educators who could not be replaced if absent from the classroom.
  • Technology has provided us with the ability to communicate, curate, collaborate, and (most importantly) create with any number of educators, globally, at any time, and at very little cost.

  • Many of the arguments being made today as to how the Internet is ruining our society were first put forth with the introduction of public speaking, the printed word, telecommunications and so on.

  • For generations, youths have showed they would rather sit around and play than go outside and play. It's not technologies' fault if a kid is lazy ... it comes down to parenting, values and the child's disposition.
  • But, there's something else we need to remember: Our values were created in a different time and in a different place.

  • Connected devices should inject new opportunities, knowledge, data, influencers and thinking into our debates and add value not distraction.
  • The question of student distractibility is worth further exploration.
  • Technology does not need to be a part of every aspect of our lives. We need to learn when it is the best tool, when it plays a part on the sidelines and when it is best left out of the equation.
