P2P Foundation » Blog Archive » Osiris software - Establish serverless p2p co... - 0 views

  •
"Our activities on the net are being closely monitored and there are plans in several countries to allow governments to shut down communications, as recently happened in Egypt. Tools are needed to help circumvent such blocks, so as to keep communications going even in adverse conditions. While hardware is an important choke point - physical connections can be severed - software is no less important. As the attempt to suppress Wikileaks has shown, taking an internet address off line is quite possible, but the direct connections of p2p are less susceptible to such disturbance. "

"The Asia-Pacific Conferences on Conceptual Modelling provide an annual forum for disseminating the results of innovative research in information modelling and related areas. The amount, complexity and diversity of information held in computer systems are constantly on the increase, and so are the requirements and challenges to be met for useful access and manipulation of this information. Conceptual modelling is fundamental to the development of up-to-date information and knowledge-based systems. The conference series aims on bringing together experts from all areas of computer science and information systems with a common interest in the subject. "

30 Years Ago Today: The Day the Middle Class Died | MichaelMoore.com - 0 views

"From time to time, someone under 30 will ask me, "When did this all begin, America's downward slide?" They say they've heard of a time when working people could raise a family and send the kids to college on just one parent's income (and that college in states like California and New York was almost free). That anyone who wanted a decent paying job could get one. That people only worked five days a week, eight hours a day, got the whole weekend off and had a paid vacation every summer. That many jobs were union jobs, from baggers at the grocery store to the guy painting your house, and this meant that no matter how "lowly" your job was you had guarantees of a pension, occasional raises, health insurance and someone to stick up for you if you were unfairly treated."

Digital economy growing pains | Technology Spectator - 0 views

Last year the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) put out an interesting long-term report, Vision 2050, in which it looked at various sectors of society and the economy. Interestingly, they describe the next ten years, till 2020, as the Turbulent Teens and indicate that only after that period will we arrive in Transformation Time, which will last till 2050. During that period we will be able to actually implement and manage many of the ideas, suggestions, technologies and new business models that are needed to create a sustainable economy, society and environment.
