An example from a colleague of an application that uses ambient metrics to determine what you like without you needing to explicitly rank it - much more effective and efficient than explicit ranking, they could add _who_ you share it with to further qualify (shared widely, narrowly, to respected peers, social peers, or senior peers, all of which are also ambiently determined, possibly in combination with some user provided metadata through other processes)
