Category:Zagreb2008 - Key Point Dialog - 0 views

  •
The Cultural Revival Dialog - Building the Europe of the Future Together - was organized by the European Movement Croatia in cooperation with the University of Oslo Knowledge Federation Project, on occasion of the 60th anniversary of the International European Movement. The invitation letter was sent to prominent Croatian researchers, policy makers and media workers, inviting them to a free and open dialog about the prospects for contemporary cultural revival. As always, the purpose of this Key Point Dialog was to come closer to the Key Point - an inspiring vision of the cultural revival, which The Club of Rome considered to be the solution to our global issues, or to the world problematique as they called them. This time we began our dialog by reflecting about a specific theme, the Sheng Zhen Qigong. The intention behind this reflection was to become aware of the nature of our present cultural turning point, of the obstacles that hinder us from changing course, and of the opportunities that a new direction may make available.

Budapest Open Access Initiative - 0 views

  •
The Budapest Open Access Initiative arises from a small but lively meeting convened in Budapest by the Open Society Institute (OSI) on December 1-2, 2001. The purpose of the meeting was to accelerate progress in the international effort to make research articles in all academic fields freely available on the internet. The participants represented many points of view, many academic disciplines, and many nations, and had experience with many of the ongoing initiatives that make up the open access movement. In Budapest they explored how the separate initiatives could work together to achieve broader, deeper, and faster success. They explored the most effective and affordable strategies for serving the interests of research, researchers, and the institutions and societies that support research. Finally, they explored how OSI and other foundations could use their resources most productively to aid the transition to open access and to make open-access publishing economically self-sustaining. The result is the Budapest Open Access Initiative. It is at once a statement of principle, a statement of strategy, and a statement of commitment.

Pettersen: "Social Media for Business" (PDF, 2009) - 1 views

  •
"Social media affect the way organizations do business and communicate externally and internally. There are no longer clear boundaries of inside and outside organization life, and we need to explore how new social media can bring value for businesses in new ways. 'Value' in a strong economic sense is challenged by social media as a door opener for influence that the organizations should take seriously. Can social media increase 'value', as in strengthened brand and reputation based on the market's influence and trust, and in the end bring economic benefit for the business and organization? The virtual market isn't a huge collection of passive consumers; it is represented by networks of people having meaningful dialogues and interaction with both each other and the businesses as such, and represents new ways of market power. Social media tools open up for rethinking value in new innovative ways - and it is interesting to examine whether different organizational cultures will make different valuable outcomes, values in social, reputational, knowledgeable and networked capital senses."

Yochai Benkler: "The Unselfish Gene" (Harvard Business Review, 2011) - 1 views

  •
"In today's world, adaptability, creativity, and innovativeness appear to be preconditions for organizations and individuals to thrive. These qualities don't fit well with the industrial business model; they aren't amenable to monitoring and pricing. We need people who aren't focused only on payoffs but do the best they can to learn, adapt, improve, and deliver results for the organization. Being internally motivated to bring these qualities to bear in a world where insight, creativity, and innovation can come from anyone, anywhere, at any time is more important than being able to calculate the costs, benefits, risks, and rewards of well-understood actions in well-specified contexts. Alongside creativity, drive, flexibility, and diversity, we must include social conscience and authentic humanity when trying to design cooperative systems."
