Scientific Method and Growing Animals - 1 views

  •
This activity allows students to work hands-on to observe and to collect data. It would be a fun activity that could engage students. This is also uses materials that would be accessible to students at home. Therefore, they could always show others.

Make a Weather Station - 1 views

  •
This is a lesson on setting up a weather station in the classroom. Students will be able to construct scientific instruments to measure weather and record data. I like this lesson because it provides a lot of activity.

States of Matter - 0 views

  •
This is a booklet of experiments and worksheets to help the students understand the states of matter. This could be used throughout a unit on states of matter. There are 9 experiments included in this bundle so they can be place throughout the unit.

Recycling Zone - 1 views

  •
At this time, technology is a huge thing that should be incorporated in each classroom. For this site, I would take the children to the computer lab and allow them to have their own computers. They love when they feel as if they have the power. This site has recycling facts, a T/F questionnaire, "magic," and even a few games. Of course, I would allow them to play around, but the main idea would be to do the T/F and read over the facts.

Energyville Game - 0 views

  •
This is an energy game where the students choose the energy mix for a vertual city. This game allows the students to discover the economic, environmental, and security impacts of their decisions. There is areas to learn about each energy source in detail. Students can compete against other students or play one-on-one.

Recycling Facts - 0 views

  •
I would use this during my lesson/teaching time with my children before most activities and projects. This website gives a page of facts about recycling and each material that is recyclable.

School Recycle Project - 0 views

  •
This would be my last step in a recycling lesson, or, "Recycle Week." I would have my children create recycling slogans to post around the school and create rules/conditions for the competition. The goal would be to have a competition between each grade and class to see who can gather the most recyclable materials in four weeks. There will be a class winner in each grade that will be rewarded with an ice cream party, pizza party, extended recess, etc., to be decided with the class.

Bird Feed Project - 0 views

  •
This bird feed project requires students to create a bird feed out of recyclable objects. Instead of using things provided like the website says, I would have each child bring something to school out of their recycle bins to use on this bird feeder as a classroom conservation project.

Reduce Reuse Recycle - 0 views

  •
This PDF is a couple pages of items. The students has to think about when items can be reduced, reused, or recycled and which ones can't It will get the students to realize what is good for the environment and what hurts it.

Recycling Wordsearch - 0 views

  •
Another activity I have picked out for the children is a recycling word search. Young children enjoy finding things on their own, and word searches are actually quite good for cognitive development. Once again, something that will take their mind off of being in the school setting.

Life of a Bean Plant - 1 views

  •
This is a PDF of the LIfe of a Bean Plant. It shows the cycle on the first sheet and then quizzes the students on the order. I think it will be a good activity for the students to complete when talking about plant life.

Recycling Words - 0 views

  •
This website has a variety of unscrambling puzzles for young children. I would use this as an activity probably in the middle of "Recycling Week" to get children away from "schoolwork." Not only are the children learning words associated with recycling, they are also working on spelling and handwriting as well.

Recycling for Kids-Mr. Cool Can - 0 views

  •
I will use this informational video to show children the recycling process. The video follows recycle products from leaving the hands of the owner, all the way through the waste center. It is a good video because it is something that takes the attention away from a lecture for a short amount of time.

Food Chain video - 0 views

  •
This is a fun video for the students showing the food chain. I think the students will enjoy the pictures and clips and it will get them excited about the subject.

Map of the Earth - 0 views

  •
Application shows the earth and the day and night region at any location on the planet by latitude, longitude and altitude. I think this would be a fun activity to have the students do while talking about planets. It lets the students explore the suns rotation. The teacher could create a sheet asking students so draw where the sun is shinning and certain locations at certain times.

Science Starters - 0 views

  •
These bell-ringer activities for science class. They get the kids focused and warmed-up. They take 5 minutes or less and it gives a teacher time to take attendance. They cover a variety of content areas (general science, physical science, biology, earth science, and astronomy). It even provides answer sheets for a nine week period.

Meremac Caverns - 0 views

  •
This is a great experience for students to get a hands-on look into geology, speleology, topography, and even a little biology as well! At Meremac Caverns students get explore the underground caverns in an eighty-minute tour led by a trained guide and a FREE mini-workshop of the teacher's choice. i can say from experience this was one of the most fun field trips I ever went on!

Tornadoes - 0 views

  •
This is a great way for you to have students to work together to figure out the velocity of tornadoes and find out what goes into the forming of tornadoes. It is a fun lesson that will have the students engaged and keep them interested on learning about tornadoes.

The Tye-Dyed Iguana - 0 views

  •
This would be a great experience to go along with a biology lesson about reptiles. The Tye-Dyed Iguana provides an interactive reptile experience that is age specific and hands-on demonstration. What is even more convenient is that they will travel to your school! I have seen kids participate and I can vouch that they LOVE it. Students not only learn about the features and specifics of reptiles but get to hold them and touch them as well.

Make a Rain Gauge - 2 views

  •
This resource describes how to make a rain gauge. This resource is valuable because it is a hands-on activity that will help students not only observe rain patterns, but will also help them to chart them. I would have my students make these in groups and we would then chart the rain fall over the course of the unit.
  •
This is an experiment for students to make their own rain gauge. I would use this in my classroom by having each student make their own rain gauge and them placing them in their yards at home. I would try to do this during the spring and rainy season and have students record their measurements after each rain. Students would then compare their measurements with their classmates and determine where the most rain fell.
