This website gives a list of famous astronauts and their biography. I would use this in a classroom and give each students an astronaut and have them research the astronaut and give us (the class) a short presentation on their findings. You could use this website in multiple ways.

free. 3-5. learning plants game. This is an interactive learning tool where the students pretend they are detectives to learn all of the parts of plants. It would be a great way to introduce all about plants. The mystery at the end of each lesson gives them a reason to want to learn all of the facts that they can.

This site gives tons of step-by-step experiments in different categories (air, animals, astronomy, chemistry, etc.) I like that they caution you on what could happen if you do a certain step wrong!!!

This is a project to use (instead of the solar system diagrams) to show how the solar system looks in 3D. This project seems very interesting in that it is not the same as all the other solar system projects and it's a new way to show the solar system. Also all types of learners can learn from this project. As a teacher I would have the students make the snow globe, explain their process and what they were thinking before and after it was complete, and was it an easy project or hard. Also, I would include a written paper in the requirement for the snow globe project. In doing so, students can revisit their information on the planets and solar system as well as see what they do or do not know about each planet. I like this project because it fun and different from what is the usual solar system project.

LAB - Pig Dissection: This is an illustrated power point presentation that guides students through the dissection of a fetal pig. It includes identification of all external and internal features and structures. A great hands on activity for biology students learning about the body systems, I selected it for its practical applications and because the pig model closely simulates the human systems. Well labeled and extremely detailed.

This resource is a comprehensive series of tutorials illustrating the components of the human body systems. This could serve as a very useful tool for remediating students as well as for early science learners. The color graphics help to guide students through the respective systems by distinguishing the various organs in each system. A useful tool that can also summarize classroom lectures.

Diagrams of body systems are available with or without labels and are also printable.

This resource provides a basic format for illustrating the Scientific Method. It explores the factors that affect seed germination. It emphasizes the brainstorming function and lays out an experimental design for students to follow. Students can make predictions and explain their rationale. A sample experimental design guide is included. This is a very important tool to assist students seeking to answer questions through experimentation.

This resource provides an excellent overview of plant biology with multimedia interfaces. It covers the origin of plants, and discusses plant parts, plant growth, how plants manufacture food, pollination, seed dispersal and adaptations. Additionally, it shows the relationship between plants and life (in general) e.g. plants as a source of oxygen, a source of food and a habitat for animals.

This is a website that contains twelve books all about oceans. They talk about sharks, marine mammals, crabs, seashells, fish, and much more. I enjoy this website because it lists the title of the book, the author, and a summary of what you will get from the book. In the classroom, I would have these out for the students to freely view while we talk about our oceans chapter. Some of the books would even be helpful as a teacher in order to teach a lesson and further the student's understanding.

This dairy farm is located in Trenton, IL and would be an excellent learning experience for children. You can set up a tour with the dairy by calling the number listed on the website. I envision taking this field trip during a unit on the food groups. It could also be used as a single, more specific, lesson about the process of creating yogurt, cheese, and milk. Students would also have the opportunity to taste a free sample of the yogurt after the tour. I can remember going on a field trip similar to this one when I was in the second or third grade. I would probably also use it for that grade level. It does not say the cost of the tour on the website but I was told that it is inexpensive.

This website actually contains a list of the "10 iPad Apps for Teaching Kids About Science." This app is listed as number five but I feel it is probably the coolest. This app allows you to view the moon from many different angles. You can view it from Earth or get closer with satellite views. The coolest thing about this app is that it is HD. So you can zoom in and really examine the moon's surface. There are places where you can read facts about people and modules that have landed on the moon. This app could be used by students of any age. It would be a valuable tool in a high school astronomy class and I think it would pair nicely with that Moon Dust activity I posted before. I could simply show my kindergarten students what the moon's surface looks like and then allow them to play with "Moon Dust." I would probably use this as an early lesson in a unit on the moon. It is not stated on this site how much this app costs exactly, just that it is under $20.

This website lists multiple activities for children to use while exploring the concept of butterflies. Several of these activities could be adapted to be used in a unit on insects. The activities are all designed for kindergarten or first grade. I especially like the use of the K-W-L chart. The students were asked at the beginning of the unit what they think they know about butterflies and then revisited this list once the unit was completed. I would maybe take it a step further and ask the students what they want to know about butterflies. I also liked the use of the mural as an educational tool.

This website is an interactive website that looks at climate through videos, games and articles. It focuses on how climate and weather affect land, water, and animals. I chose this website because there were a lot of cool pictures and activities I thought would be fun for my students. It also has a section that helps educators build lesson plans that align with NGSS, which I think is a valuable asset. It stated that it was geared toward upper elementary, but while looking through it I felt any student, Kindergarten and up, would benefit.

The Field Museum is a science centered museum located in Chicago, IL. This specific tour allows students to investigate how DNA analysis has changed our understanding of the relatedness of life on Earth through hands on activities. The students will be able to extract DNA in a lab and interview scientists. This field trip supports NGSS MS-LS4-2. I chose this location for a field trip because it engages students' learning and furthers their knowledge of DNA through hands on activity. I would take the students to participate in this DNA extraction after we finished our lesson on DNA. This way, they would be able to be even further engaged with questioning and answering with the scientists and apply our textbook knowledge to the activity.

The Children's University of Manchester produces this page. It is absolutely fabulous! The website is interactive, teaching students about a variety of different subjects in a way that is appealing to children. The brief lesson could be used as a quick introduction to a topic, or a quick recap over a topic. The site I have linked to is about the phases of the moon. The children can see a short animated clip showing the sun with the earth and moon orbiting around it. The clip has facts throughout, and a brief quiz at the end. I would highly recommend incorporating this site into your classroom!

This is an app that teaches students all about dinosaurs. The app shows the user pictures of hundreds of dinosaurs, as well as their sizes, weights, and other stats. I liked this app because many students are interested in dinosaurs and this app will let them explore that interest. I would incorporate this app into a lesson about dinosaurs or prehistoric species.

This is a fun activity that will show students the process of rain. They will take a glass of water, place shaving cream on top to represent the clouds, and drop food coloring through the "clouds" to depict rain. The lesson is also partnered with a book about clouds that describes each different type of cloud. I chose this resource because it will be something the students can get excited about while also being able to watch exactly what it looks like when rain comes out of the clouds. I would use this resource when introducing photosynthesis.

This resource is game the students can play that helps them identify the food chain and what animals hunt others. I think this resource would be used as a good extra activity for if the students finish an activity early. This is a great introduction to the food chain to let the students guess and explore what they already know. They could journal after about what they found and if they were wrong or if they were right and characteristics about the animals.

This game shows different living organisms that can be in the food chain and can be a fun way to add upon your lesson concerning food chains.

In this activity, students are shown a picture of wildlife and are asked to click on eight living things. Students can click on animals or plants. I chose this activity because younger students could use this as a starting point when learning about wildlife. I envision this being used in the lower grades as a beginning activity.

On 27 August 1883, the Earth let out a noise louder than any it has made since. It was 10:02 AM local time when the sound emerged from the island of Krakatoa, which sits between Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. Wow! This video is crazy awesome! On the website there is a video posted of a volcano in Indonesia erupting. It shows the volcano erupting and then you hear this unexpected BOOM (they call it a shock in the video)! After that all you see is thick gray smoke covering the volcano. This video would be a great resource to incorporate into any lesson over volcanoes erupting, it is a great realistic feature. Before showing the video to students you could make them record what predictions about what they think will happen when the volcano erupts, and then show them the video and discuss what actually happens. Another great feature about this website is that it gives information about the volcano erupting and what were some of the effects from the eruption. It also explains what happened when the volcano made that BOOM noise. Overall I thinks students will love watching a real life volcano erupt, they will most likely think its pretty awesome!
