This is a brief explanation on why the sky is blue followed by an activity. I chose this source because I have always wanted to know the definitive answer to the question: Why is the sky blue? I would use this in an older elementary classroom as a lesson followed by a lab activity.

This is an activity illustrating how the tiny particles of the ringed planets can be seen so far away despite their small size. I chose this activity because I liked it, and because I liked that it had a discussion after its completion. I imagine my class will complete this activity and then we will discuss our findings as a whole group.

This website has 5 different experiments that students can do with plants. The experiments test the effects of light, water, food, talking to the plants, and soil content on the growth of plants. I selected this source because I think the experiments are good and will help students understand the best conditions of plants. It will help them understand that there are other components besides light and water that go into the growth of a plant. I would use this resource during a plant unit, likely in 3rd or 4th grade. This would be an ongoing project that could integrate measurement in math, graphing (with and without use of technology), and art (by drawing observations).  

I love this one! I really like plant experiments becuase these days, kids don't really get to appreicate and witness actual plant growth. I would any of these as ideas to use in my classroom.

When teaching a lesson about natural disasters, making a vinegar volcano is a great way to keep the students interested and active in the lesson. This experiment would be really great to try with all of my students after a science unit on volcanoes. Using baking soda and Vinegar, the students will also be learning about chemical reactions and how baking soda ( a base) and vinegar (an acid) react to each other and cause frizzing. This lesson would allow my students to get creative in making their own volcano, while learning about what a volcano is, and the cause and effects of the volcano.

remove "science" tag and add something more specific, such as "earth science." The grade level tag should be K-2, 3-5, 5-8, and/or 9-12 to be consistent with other tags. Specify whether this is a lesson, activity, field trip, etc. in the tags.

It has hundreds of high quality (made for TV type quality) videos designed to give educators information on how to conduct lessons of all disciplines. Broken down by 5 different subjects, 4 different grade groups and thousands of topics, lots here for any teacher of any discipline. Bonus--common core standards can be found in most videos!

This is a great website for science lesson plans. I really like how it gives you all of the worksheets you need to use during the lesson. It also shows you different links that are related to the lesson that might be good to supplement your lesson with. There is also plenty of teacher resources such as articles, tips, themes, and printables. I would use this for lesson plan ideas along with supplemental materials.

This page has some great resources for teaching children about lightning and lightning safety.

This website explains what carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, and decomposers are. It is very colorful, making it kid friendly. I choose this website as a resource because it is simple for young students to understand. The information is right to the point, creating a clear understanding of the material. I would use this resource in my classroom to teach my students how animals are classified based on what they eat.

This is a website that contains information about food chains and the classifications of animals based on their eating. It also contains worksheets for the students to do. I chose this website because it contains worksheets for students to do. I would use this website as a resource in my future classroom because it contains worksheets. As a teacher I would assign my students to complete one of the worksheets as an activity during the lesson on food chains.

I really like how this site gives basic information about butterflies including area, habitat, food, size, and life cycle in a fun and coloful format. It also includes links to games and activity ideas.

This site is great! It gives a very cute animated lesson about butterfly life cycles and then allows you to play games to practive what you've learned! This would be great for a kindergarten or early elementary classroom and could be done individually or on a SmartBoard as a class as well.

This site is a great resource for teachers planning a caterpillar/butterfly unit. It's actually two units and it breaks each unit down into parts. It also contains links to supplemental material to use during the lesson, including a slideshow, images, and student sheets.

This resource was organized into the four different seasons. Once you decide which season you want to explore, you click on the specifc button which then leads you to many different artifacts. There were coloring sheets that went along with the season which would be a great tool for free time during this unit. Another great tool on this site was the games. Each season had games that ranged in difficulty. I could use the game section of this website as a computer center for the students. I would definitely use this website in the classroom as well as a resourse for planning my lessons.

This video was a very child friendly video explaining why we have seasons. This video would be a great resource for the students. I could show the students this video after we have discussed what the four seasons are and the characteristics of each. This would be a great lead in to explaining why we have seasons. I could show this to the students as a whole class or make this another center. The video also has a quiz, questions, and a section to learn more about the seasons at the end of it. This makes this video even better.

This site from the Kennedy Space Center has a lot of children's books that all incorporate space ranging from $3.00 to $20.00. These books would be a great way to start off a lesson in order to get the students interested in the content. The books on this site are aimed for younger kids. Also, this site includes DVD's, gift ideas, toys, apparel, and even space food to buy. I think that by having a variety of space books in my classroom library would encourage the students to find out more about space. I mainly picked this site because a teacher can never have too many childrens books, and this site has several choices for reasonable prices.

This YouTube video is a 25 minute episode of the Magic Schoolbus. In this episode, the class takes a field trip into outerspace. They travel around the sun and to each planet. I picked this video because I always loved The Magic Schoolbus series. They keep children's attention but are very educational as well. I would definately use this video in my classroom. After a long week of studying the planets and solar system, I could play this on a Friday to wrap up the unit.

This is a cute idea to incorporate visual arts into a science lesson plans. I loved using Crayola lesson plans when I was teaching pre-school. This lesson is cute because it deals with baby animals and the students get to work on fine motor skills as well. Be sure to check out the rest of the website.

This website has some great ipad apps. I don't know if they are all free, but it looks like some of them are. There are apps for for both students and teachers. The rest of the website also has resources for teachers and it looks like a great place to find all kinds of information to use in the classroom. I like the idea of mobile apps and I use them when i can.

During this activity students will complete a worksheet (that is attached on the bottom of the website) where they will gather information about each planet. I like that the information that is needed to complete the worksheet is quite extensive compared to other worksheets. This webquest could be used as a lesson one day to break up the tediousness of sitting in a desk and reading from the book. I like that it incorporates technology in the classroom by allowing students to use computers.
