Obesity rates expected to top 50% of the population by 2030.  The Severe obesity rate is expected at 11%, which sounds better, but the rate currently sits at 6.3%.  Overalls, obesity is expected to increase by 33% with those in the severe category increasing by 130%.  These type of numbers require a refocus on out methods of curbing this trend, because our current gimmick-based therapies are not working

Re-analysis of Carlsen's work on sperm count finds consistent decline in sperm count.  Swan and authors found a 1.5% decline in US men from 1934-1996 and 3% annual decline in European/Australian men over same time frame.  This was a meta-analysis of 101 studies from 1934-1996.  Yes, there is geographical variation, but the overall trend is one of decline.

Very disturbing trend.  Study finds that opioid addicted infants are on a dramatic risk in the US.  This study looked at Neionatal abstinence syndrome from 2000 to 2009.  This follows the significant increase in maternal opioid prescription use.  We physicians must do better.  Patients must demand better.  This study just focused on hospital costs directly associated with the Neonatal period.  No cost estimates are evaluated for long-term care.

Statin use associated with lower total Testosterone and "non-SHBG bound Testosterone" (i.e. free testosterone) in men.  The higher the dose, the lower the trend in Testosterone.  The study found decreased testosterone could occur as soon as 1 month.

Low total Testosterone, low free Testosterone, and low SHBG associated with increased CRP.  Serum total estradiol and free estradiol trended to a positive association, but did not reach statistical significance.

No decrease or trend for lower inflammatory markers seen in Testosterone therapy in men > 65.  These men had levels of T < 475 ng/dl, which brings into question this studies results as most studies point to 300 or 250 as the mark.

Do weight loss drugs reduce obesity or could they actually increase obesity rates? The search for gimmicks has created a dependance on weight-loss drug falsehoods that don't work long term.  Life style has been and continues to be the long term answer.  Weight-loss drugs actually are fueling the obesity trend due to a lack of metabolic solutions.   They work for the health of pharma profits, just not for the health of the patient.

The Pharmacists' Defence Association (PDA) has expressed concerns over Boots UK's decision to reduce supplemental opening hours at some pharmacies. The association stated: "Some pharmacists and other staff at Boots are being notified this week of changes to opening hours at their place of work, with local briefings taking place. The PDA are supporting their members to deal with any potential impact on their employment." It said that reducing pharmacy opening hours would affect patients' access to a trusted healthcare professional, especially if it is being done by the largest community pharmacy multiple. It even called upon the NHS to adequately fund community pharmacies to ensure they remain open when patients and local communities need their services. Meanwhile, Boots management has informed PDA that most of its employees are not pharmacists, and "less pharmacists are expected to be directly impacted by these changes than other colleagues," PDA said.
