ghrelin plays central role in positive energy balance.  Ghrelin is produced from stomach to increase appetite prior to eating and then decreases post meal to provide satiety.  In some, the post meal ghrelin remains elevated and thus overeating ensues.  Important point, is that low ghrelin has been shown to lead to insulin resistance.

If you doctor doesn't know this, find another doctor.  Inherent bias in this study as ties to the manufacturer of the Testosterone was disclosed. This study point to the inherent flaws in so much of the medical literature today.  Most would read the headlines and read no further, but the "further" dispels the headline as flawed.

Great review of the current understanding of thyroid hormone metabolism in cardiac tissue.  Low T3 and increased rT3 (via increased D3 activity) is CLEARLY associated with poor cardiac performance and post MI and CHF is associated with poor outcomes.  T3 is critical in cardiac remodeling and recovery post MI.  T3 is actually a vasodilatory in the coronary arteries.   Why a endocrinologist would call rT3 useless only points to their ignorance of the literature.
