NASA Aviation. NASA X Technology Program, The Boeing X-48 UAV. Future of Aeronautics HD. FSX Boeing B-797 Flying Wing Super Liner On March 19, 2010, NASA and Boeing successfully completed the initial flight testing phase of the X-48B. Fay Collier, manager of the ERA Project in NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate commented on the completion of the first phase of testing saying, "This project is a huge success. Bottom line: the team has proven the ability to fly tailless aircraft to the edge of the low-speed envelope safely." 39 Days to Mars! NASA's New Plasma Following the installation of a new flight computer in 2010, the X-48B was to continue a new phase of flights tests to investigate controlability aspects. The second phase of flight tests with the X-48B began in September 2010. The X-48C first flew on August 7, 2012. Engine yaw control was among the aspects to be studied.] The X-48C completed its 8-month flight test program with its 30th flight on 9 April 2013. The Boeing X-48 is an experimental unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for investigation into the characteristics of blended wing body (BWB) aircraft, a type of flying wing. Boeing designed the X-48 and two examples were built by Cranfield Aerospace in the UK. Boeing began flight testing the X-48B version for NASA in 2007. The X-48B was later modified into the X-48C version. It was flight tested from August 2012 to April 2013. Boeing and NASA plan to develop a larger BWB demonstrator.

WPI Deep UV Optical Fiber Cable | Bifurcated Fiber | Fiber Optic Assemblies - 0 views

  •
"Due to the large core of multimode Optical Fiber, some of the light rays goes zigzag as they bounce off the cladding and others make up the digital pulse may travel a direct route. These phenomena cause the different groups of light rays. These different groups of light rays are referred to as modes. These modes are arrived separately at the receiving point. The pulse, an aggregate of different modes, begins to spread out, losing its well-defined shape. The need to leave spacing between pulses to prevent overlapping limits the amount of information that can be sent. In a core the refractive index diminishes gradually from the center axis out toward the cladding, meaning the refractive index at the center is the most. At the center the light rays moving down the axis advance more slowly than those near the cladding due to the difference in the refractive index. Because of the graded index, the light in the core moves spirally rather than zigzag off the cladding. It significantly reduces its travel distance. The shortened path and the higher speed allow light at the periphery to arrive at a receiver at about the same time as the slow but straight rays in the core axis. Tough it takes the same time but as a result the digital pulse suffers less dispersion. Specific Applications * liquid absorbance analytical technique * solid or liquid reflection analytical technique * solid or liquid Raman analytical technique * integrated component of a medical instrument * individual light source "

How ZikaVirus Crosses The Placental Barrier - 1 views

  •
The epidemic of Zika Virus (ZV) drastically affected the health of more than one million people in Brazil resulting in twenty-fold increase of microcephaly (head circumference of newborn baby being less than or equal to thirty-two cms) in infected pregnant women. ZV crosses the placental barrier between maternal and fetal compartments. ZV has been found in amniotic fluid and fetal brain tissue of the human pregnancies complicated with ZV infection and microcephaly supporting cause and effect relationship between ZV and microcephaly. New knowledge about how ZV enters into the cells is mandatory for preventive and therapeutic research. ZV is a Flavivirus, therefore the Flavivirus receptors are candidate receptors for ZV too. ZV has been associated with high level of TYRO3 and AXL component of TAM, a Tyrosine Kinase receptor family, expression in the infected skin cells and neuronal stem cells. It predicts that AXL receptors may facilitate ZV entry into the trophoblasts and endothelial cells lining the fetal vessels present in the placenta. This hypothesis stems from the reported studies on ZV and AXL receptor expression, both in human tissues and animal models. If our hypothesis proves to be valid, it would be a great step towards the drug and therapeutic development to prevent ZV crossing the placental barrier and resulting in complications. The Neural Correlates of Moral Thinking: A Meta-Analysis - 0 views

  •
We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate current research that aims to map the neural correlates of two typical conditions of moral judgment: right-wrong moral judgments and decision-making in moral dilemmas. Utilizing the activation likelihood estimation (ALE) method, we conducted a meta-analysis using neuroimaging data obtained from twenty-one previous studies that measured responses in one or the other of these conditions. We found that across the studies (n = 400), distinct neural circuits correlated with a distinction in the type of moral question used as stimulus. For right-wrong moral judgments, the significantly active regions were identified in the right medial frontal gyrus, the bilateral anterior cingulates, the left inferior frontal gyrus, the right middle temporal gyrus, the left superior frontal gyrus and the left posterior cingulate. Chemistry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • Chemistry
  • Chemistry, a branch of physical science, is the study of the composition, structure, properties and change of matter.
  • Chemistry is chiefly concerned with atoms and their interactions with other atoms - for example, the properties of the chemical bonds formed between atoms to create chemical compounds.
  • ...9 more annotations...
  • Chemistry is sometimes called "the central science" because it bridges other natural sciences like physics, geology and biology with each other.
  • Chemistry is a branch of physical science but distinct from physics.
  • Etymology
  • The word chemistry comes from the word alchemy, an earlier set of practices that encompassed elements of chemistry, metallurgy, philosophy, astrology, astronomy, mysticism and medicine; it is commonly thought of as the quest to turn lead or another common starting material into gold.
  • Alchemy, which was practiced around 330, is the study of the composition of waters, movement, growth, embodying, disembodying, drawing the spirits from bodies and bonding the spirits within bodies
  • An alchemist was called a 'chemist' in popular speech, and later the suffix "-ry" was added to this to describe the art of the chemist as "chemistry".
  • The word alchemy in turn is derived from the Arabic word al-kīmīā (الکیمیاء). In origin, the term is borrowed from the Greek χημία or χημεία.
  • This may have Egyptian origins.
  • Many believe that al-kīmīā is derived from the Greek χημία, which is in turn derived from the word Chemi or Kimi, which is the ancient name of Egypt in Egyptian.

Unusual Response of Human Tissue under the Low Impact Force - 0 views

  •
Pedestrian injuries such as traumatic amputations, transections and decapitations are rare in traffic accidents, but are directly connected to high vehicle impact speeds. This paper analyses a unique case of a traumatic limb amputation and a lateral decapitation from a pedestrian car collision. The driver left the scene of the accident, but at the place of impact the car's registration plate was found. After identifying the driver and performing a vehicle inspection, it was determined that the damage on the car does not show that the impact speed was extremely high. The same conclusion was reached by the vehicle speed determination, according to accident investigation basic principles. For more info : http://scidoc.org/IJFP-2332-287X-04-1002.php

Unification theory with no extra dimensions. The first part unifies the strong nuclear force with the gravitational force in a mathematical way; the quantum vacuum is treated as a deformable system by the strong nuclear force. The second part unifies the nuclear force with the quantum vacuum in a hypothetical structure; the quantum vacuum is treated as a supersymmetric and metastable system with properties related to the different types of particles' motion.

dental - Research of Radicular Cyst on Permanent Tooth - 0 views

  •
The radicular cysts developed on primary teeth are infrequent compared to their evolution in permanent teeth. However, dentigerous cysts are ranked second in frequency after inflammatory cysts. They surround the crown of a tooth erupting while the radiculo- inflammatory dental cysts are hanging from the roots of the mortified teeth. This is the probable coexistence of these two entities that we have been faced in a patient aged 10 years with mixed dentition who presented a radiolucent lesion surrounding infected roots of a mandibular second primary molar in the vicinity of the tooth successor. In our presentation, we discuss problem diagnosis but also treatment. Indeed, we proceeded to avulsion of deciduous molar and we opted for a cystotomy or marsupialisation to preserve the replacement tooth. For more info : http://scidoc.org/IJDOS-2377-8075-03-903.php

Forensic Relevance of The Suicide Tree "Cerebra Odollam" - 0 views

  •
Cerbera odollam is a powerful toxic plant that is responsible both for suicide and homicide. The seeds are excessively toxic, containing cerberin as the main active cardenolide. Cerberin is difficult to detect in autopsies and its taste can be masked with strong spices. Therefore it is often used in homicide and suicide especially in India. Pathologists would not be able to identify Cerbera poisoning unless there is evidence the victim had eaten the plant. In this article we want to highlight the recent incidence of poisoning, present analytical techniques used as well the recent advances in identification of the cereberin toxin. blast furnace gas recovery - 0 views

  •
Separation of CO from blast furnace gas is an international problem, which is mainly due to the blast furnace gas also contains a large number of N2 and CO2. Because of the close boiling point of N2 and CO, the traditional cryogenic rectification process cannot be used to separate CO from blast furnace gas. The adsorption of CO and N2 is low, and the adsorption of CO2 is easy to poisoning and deactivation, so the conventional pressure swing adsorption method cannot be used for CO separation of blast furnace gas.
