It is a known fact that there has been a rapid increase of population across the globe. This population growth demands increase in living space and food. It is the agricultural sector that is considered to be the life supporting occupation as it is agriculture that is the source of food. Be it producing vegetables and other food items that are directly consumed, the agriculture sector is also a key sector that has many consumable manufacturing industries dependent on them. Considering this dual role of the agriculture sector, there has been constant research happening on increasing crop yield from the existing land under cultivation. One of the key results of these researches is the introduction of the concept called sustainable farming that majorly focuses at improving the yields without disturbing the natural systems and resources on which productivity depends upon. This uniqueness of this concept led many farmers to opt for sustainable farming. However, there are various techniques of sustainable farming that are briefly discussed as follows:

Crop rotation: Cultivating different types of crops in the same field is one of the most popular and effective sustainable farming technique that helps remove all the possibilities of experiencing any side effects of planting the same crop every year. Crop rotation is also an effective way of controlling pests which are crop specific.

  • Cover crops: for all the cultivators who wish to preserve the quality of the soil, can plant small cultivations between the cropping periods. In addition to maintaining the soil quality, it also prevents soil erosion and controls weeds.

  • Soil enrichment: It is a known fact that soil quality is of prime importance in the process of cultivation. However, due to excessive use of pesticides dampen the soil quality. However, by encouraging and nurturing natural pest attackers, soil quality is retained and improved.

  • Integrated Pest Management system: Despite using good quality seeds and choosing the best quality soil, pest attack can lead to complete destruction of the yield and crop. Therefore, sustainable farming has introduced an effective and sophisticated technique of preventing and attacking pest i.e. pest management system which avoids using chemical pesticides and relies on natural pest killing sources.

  • Thus, considering the sub branches of sustainable farming, it is loud and clear that it has various techniques that focus at identifying and improving all the aspects of cultivation. Considering the broad approach of this technique and the subsequent benefits it has on cultivation and environment, various organisations are helping farmers to implement this technique. However, the one organisation that has been greatly contributing to the field of agriculture is Trivedi Foundation. After taking the wellness industry by storm with The Trivedi Effect®, Mahendra Trivedi has now taken this divine energy into the field of agriculture and has managed to transform nearly 40 varieties of crops resulting to phenomenal yields.
