We all will agree to the fact that engineers have made our lives comfortable and full of choices, and we all have access to numerous numbers of choices and we can always choose something that is best for us. It is the engineers who have made it easier for us to experience the amazing cold when it is really hot outside and vice versa. It is the engineers that have made it easier for us to have the best of cars by our side. Among all the engineers, civil engineers are the real God because they have designed and constructed the houses we live in. They have helped us in realizing our dreams, and they have proved us with a roof over our head. One needs to be really active and accurate with the facts and formula to be a good civil engineer.

Civil engineering is changing the world, from simple ten storied buildings to thousand meters long building, and we all have come a long way, and we are not stopping here. The world is going to see some amazing creatures of civil engineering in coming future but there are loads of problem that these engineers face, they spend a lot of time researching about the facts and figures before they actually go and build skyscrapers.

Structural analysis is a part of civil engineering and in this branch we study about the structures. We study different kinds of structures, and we see whether this structure will be able to stand tall under such conditions or not. The structural analysis helps in gathering a lot of kaleidoscopic information about the building that we are going to design and then build.

Structure can be defined as the system that has a lot of elements, all of which are interconnected and are providing strength to each other. A structure is also a system that has all the power in the world to stand on its own with the strength of constituent elements. There are several kinds of loads acting on a structure, some of them are listed here:

    • Dead loads

    • Earth pressure loads

    • Wind loads

    • Live loads

    • Snow loads

    • Thermal loads

    • Earthquake loads

All these loads are going to act on the structure hence there is a need to understand how the structure is going to behave under such conditions. A structural analysis involves an intricate study of effects of the load, pressure, heat and temperature on the structure, it also calculates the amount of load it can carry and what the threshold power of the structure is. Over the time, engineers and scientists have spent a lot of time on it, and they have developed different formulas for calculating different kinds of load and they are all dependent on the same.

It is impossible for any civil engineer to do a structural analysis before start building any structure, and it is one of those basic principles of civil engineering, and all engineers follow it with a lot of dedication.
