"Preparing the students of today to become productive citizens of the future requires our educational system to promote life-long learners who are able to work together to solve realistic problems and develop a basic understanding of the natural and humanly modified world around them. Information presented in a familiar and mind-engaging context leads to greater understanding and retention, as compared to memorization of facts in isolation. I didn't go to the activity but looks good and interactive from the description.

"A junior science class demonstrates a lesson about multicelular organisms using glove puppets with a constructivist approach to problem solving and a blended learning model. This activity has even been adapted by the teacher Roland Gesthuizen to help explore complex topics including technology issues such as cyberbullying, privacy, programming, copyright, freedom and ethical behaviour whilst improving their literacy and social skills. This is a very engaging way to quickly assess student understanding using some simple technology and computer skills without the need for sophisticated digital equipment."

"Students will build a lung model to learn how their lungs and diaphragm work to make them breathe. The lesson features a demonstration on how incomplete combustion of fossil fuels releases particles into the air that can negatively affect human health, and how we can protect ourselves from these effects."

Students play the role of birds, go out on the school lawn, and pick up toothpick "stick worms" which have been previously scattered on the lawn in equal numbers of green-stained and unstained. "Birds" are chased away before the "worm population" drops too low. Back in the classroom, the number of green and non-green "worms" are compared individually and for the whole class. Discussion relates the experience to the elements of natural selection. As presented here, it does not lend itself to demonstrating the effects of selection over multiple generations.
