  •
Step by step comparison interactive guide between mitosis and meiosis
  •
NOVA animation comparing mitosis and meiosis.  Also includes brief explanations of what happens in developing egg cells versus sperm.
  •
"Most of the time, when a cell in our bodies divides, each new cell carries a complete set of chromosomes. The cells involved with human reproduction, however, carry only half after division occurs. In this step-by-step explanation, learn about mitosis and meiosis, the two types of cell division."

The Cell Song - YouTube - 3 views

  •
"I went into a cell, to get out of the rain, and there was the gatekeeper, the cell membrane. I went into a cell, and what did I see, the mitochondria, it's the energy factory. I went into a cell, and said "who drives this bus" and found myself talking to the boss, the nucleus. ..."

The Parts of a Cell on Vimeo - 4 views

  •
"Here are words that will be helpful to students doing a hands-on science inquiry to view prepared slides of plant and animal cells to identify parts and learn the function of each. They relate their observations to the Essential Question: What are the parts of an animal cell and a plant cell? "

Spirogyra - Filamentous Green Algae - YouTube - 3 views

  •
"This particular algal species, commonly found in polluted water, is often referred to as "pond scum". As the movie switches to a 20x lens and then the 40x, watch closely, toward the center of each cell in the strand, for the cell nucleus. It's right near the middle and shows as a round object that is near transparent, but once you see it, you will see others. "

$10 Smartphone to digital microscope conversion! - 5 views

  •
"This instructable will show you how to build a stand for about $10 that will transform your smartphone into a powerful digital microscope. This DIY conversion stand is more than capable of functioning in an actual laboratory setting. With magnification levels as high as 175x, plant cells and their nuclei are easily observed!  In addition to allowing the observation of cells, this setup also produces stunning macro photography."

WolframTones: An Experiment in a New Kind of Music - 1 views

  •
Wolfram Tones is a neat offering from Wolfram that students can use to can play with sample sounds and rhythms to create new own sounds. Wolfram Tones uses algorithms, music theory, and sound samples to generate new collections of sounds. Wolfram Tones allows visitors to choose samples from fifteen different genres of music on which to build their own sounds. Once a genre is selected visitors can then alter the rhythms, instrumentation, and pitch mapping of their sounds. When satisfied with their creations, users can download their sounds or have them sent directly to their cell phones.
