5 iPad Apps to Help Students and Teachers Collaborate | Jonathan Wylie: Instructional Technology Consultant - 0 views

  •
"There are not an abundance of apps for the iPad that really encourage a worthwhile level of collaboration between students or between students and teachers. There are several that would allow students to share an iPad and work on something together on one iPad, but what if you want students to be working on their own iPads at school, at home, or at a time of their choosing? The following 5 apps are designed for just that, and help take advantage of the iPad as a collaborative tool. "

Five Habits for Collaborative Work That Lead to Excited Professionals - ASCD Annual Conference 2011 - 0 views

  •
"School culture should be collegial, said Sagor, where there is a focus on continuous improvement, shared responsibility, valuing contributions, and the acceptance that conflict is inevitable. "Working in teams needs to be exciting and attractive to bring the best and the brightest into our profession," he said. "When people say 'just tell us what to do,' the battle is nearly lost.""

Kindergarten Math on the iPad…Many Questions… | Langwitches Blog - 1 views

  •
"As you are watching, ask yourself: What changed by using, in this case, the iPad and ShowMe app? Could the same [learning] have been accomplished by keeping students' illustrations analog? Was there differentiation potential? Can this type of "activity" be used as an assessment to replace/upgrade traditional assessment? Are the movie clips potential artifacts for digital portfolios? Could these movie clips be part of a variety of student work at a parent-teacher conference? Was any learning amplified by placing it on the classroom blog to share with families? What skills were practiced? What literacies were supported? Was it worth the extra time investment, the learning curve?"

"All I Really Need to Know (About Creative Thinking) I Learned (By Studying How Children Learn) in Kindergarten * Mitchel Resnick MIT Media Lab Cambridge, MA 02139 USA +1 617 253 9783 mres@media.mit.edu ABSTRACT This paper argues that the "kindergarten approach to learning" - characterized by a spiraling cycle of Imagine, Create, Play, Share, Reflect, and back to Imagine - is ideally suited to the needs of the 21 st century, helping learners develop the creative-thinking skills that are critical to success and satisfaction in today's society. The paper discusses strategies for designing new technologies that encourage and support kindergarten-style learning, building on the success of traditional kindergarten materials and activities, but extending to learners of all ages, helping them continue to develop as creative thinkers. Moving from Consumer to Producer of Information | The Thinking Stick - 0 views

  •
"In the social web each of us becomes a node of information. We are allowed to connect to friends, people, sites, information. We are allowed to consume, produce, share, learn, recreate, remix, and be as large or as small a node as we want. Education in the 21st Century is not about consuming information (it changes to fast), it's about creating new knowledge from what we know, what we think, and what we are passionate about."

An Exemplary Scribe Blog Post, Pecha Kutcha Presentation, and Screencast « Moving at the Speed of Creativity - 2 views

  •
"Copying the "scribe post blog" idea from Darren Kuroptawa, we've used a Blogger site this semester as a shared learning blog / scribe blog. Students were randomly assigned a partner at the start of term and a week to summarize, and worked together to post a thorough recap of their week's topic and learning points. In week 13 we discussed Pecha Kutcha presentations as well as phonecasting, and the student summary for the week was excellent. This summary was good, in part, because it included multiple hyperlinks to relevant resources."

We discussed different ways to take notes and came up with: individual note taking by paper and pencil individual note taking on a word processor collaborative backchanneling visual note taking (on SmartBoard and paper)"
