Of interest: Collaborative and Social Tagging Networks (2008-01) included France and China. When I last checked (probably around 2009-03) there was nothing more recent that reminded me of Diigo's feature set. Could be good to have Diigo covered in a future article.

New university library puts focus on the fans - 0 views

  • At last count, there were more than 20 manga museums in its home country, including The Kyoto International Manga Museum, and now there is talk of creating a National Center for Media Arts to include manga and anime. Bound for glory: Manga being readied for Tokyo's upcoming Yoshihiro Yonezawa Memorial Library of Manga and Subcultures. YOSHIHIRO YONEZAWA MEMORIAL LIBRARY OF MANGA AND SUBCULTURES window.google_render_ad(); But as the national government swings belatedly into action, some experts are saying it is time to shift the focus from manga itself onto the fans' subculture that has fed its success.
  • In another indication of the new library's focus on the fan subculture surrounding manga, it will be the first facility of its kind in Japan to house a substantial collection of doujinshi,

FOREVER MINUS A DAY? CALCULATING OPTIMAL COPYRIGHT TERM - 0 views

  •
    JEL Classification: O31 O34 L10
  •
Abstract, from the PDF: The optimal term of copyright has been a matter for extensive debate over the last decade. Based on a novel approach we derive an explicit formula which charac- terises the optimal term as a function of a few key and, most importantly, empirically- estimable parameters. Using existing data on recordings and books we obtain a point estimate of around 15 years for optimal copyright term with a 99% confidence interval extending up to 38 years. This is substantially shorter than any current copyright term and implies that existing terms are too long.
