Collective Action Toolkit - 0 views

  •
Really interesting set of linked protocols for organizational planning. "The Collective Action Toolkit isn't a rigid template for problem solving. It's designed to be flexible and accessible, with an action map and activities arranged into six categories, from building a group, to imagining new ideas, to planning change. The toolkit challenges groups to move beyond discussion to action, continually clarifying their shared goals based on what they learn through the problem-solving process."

National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation - 0 views

  •
The National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation (NCDD) promotes the use of dialogue, deliberation, and other innovative group processes to help people come together across differences to tackle our most challenging problems. Great resources to use in classrooms for democratic and deliberative dialogue.

Hi Mary, you might be interested in the National School Reform Faculty. Professionally it is a great resource, but I have used many of the protocols in my classroom. They are great for opening up dialogs and giving students a voice in the classroom. National School Reform Faculty

A Graphic Syllabus Can Bring Clarity to Course Structure | Faculty Focus - 2 views

  •
"To encourage student thinking about the overall structure of a course right from the start, why not include a concept map or mind map in the syllabus? When I looked at Linda's work (in the two references listed below) she actually advocates what she calls a "graphic syllabus," described as a "flowchart, graphic organizer, or diagram of the schedule and organization of course topics, sometimes with tests, assignments, and major activities included."

Interesting article. Back when I had "classes" the first day was dedicated to working through a modified version of a Chalk Talk. This gave me a really good sense of where students were at in their understanding and it gave them the opportunity to see how each lesson/concept would be part of the "big picture" of the class. I also would wrap up the semester with the exact same lesson. Huge opportunity for leaving them with a sense of accomplishment and final chance for them to see the pieces in a larger context.

Today ask yourself... 1. What am I teaching and to whom? 2. Why am I teaching it? 3. How am I teaching it? 4. Why am I teaching it that way? 5. What evidence will I collect to show my kids are getting it? 6. How will my students know they are getting it?

7 Things You Should Know About Flipped Classrooms - 6 views

  •
Succinct summary explaining the flipped classroom, advantages, challenges and future implications for education.
  •
Sometimes I wonder if the flipped classroom model could be supplemented by a third piece...maybe a "backflip" of sorts to help them stick the landing? Online lecture then face-to-face instruction followed by one-on-one time.
  •
Used the flipped model a bit back at OVUHS with students in Internships. Gave students readings in an online platform (Moodle) to be read and reflectively journaled using an assigned text-based protocol. Students were asked to connect readings to field experiences. Found that there was a Huge benefit to both students and myself with the time this model gave us to thoughtfully reflect and prepare for our face-to-face time. Instead of students coming to me for gaining knowledge, they came to me to share knowledge gained.
