Other lists I've created involving movies, music and sports have certainly sparked some healthy debate and I've had to laugh at the abuse heaped upon my choices in the comments section of those posts. However, I suspect this list of the best video games of all time will trump them all when it comes to reader backlash. Everyone has their own strongly held opinions when it comes to these types of lists, and if a favorite song, movie or athlete is overlooked then outrage naturally seems to follow. However, with video games there is an extra ingredient thrown into the recipe that really adds some spice to the argument. That ingredient is "The Fanboy".

Although the majority of today's gamers would laugh up their sleeves in derision if shown a classic video game from the 80s, the fact remains that this was really the decade that started the video game phenomenon, and the games that were the pioneers of this phenomenon, though graphically far inferior to today's offerings, were some of the most brilliantly craft, addictive games ever to grace a monitor or TV screen. Arcades ruled the day, with youth willing to do any odd job to earn a few quarters so they could run down to the local arcade and plug those quarters into games like Pac-Man, Defender, and Galaga. Most adults turned up their noses at these dark, musty caves with their overwhelming cacophony of beeps and blasts, but to kids these arcades were heaven on earth.

For several years I loved my Nintendo Entertainment System. It was like my best friend, but sometimes you drift apart and meet new friends. In 1989, I met my new friend, the Sega Genesis. There were many fun games on the Sega Genesis and I always considered myself a Genesis fans, as opposed to those Nintendo fanboys. It's time to take a little trip down memory lane and remember my ten favorite Sega Genesis games.

The seventh-generation video game consoles have standardized a number of new video game features, including downloadable content, online play, wireless controllers and motion control.   Remember the '80's? Odds are if you're a gamer just hearing that makes you think of the good old Nintendo Entertainment System. The big N's first console to ship to North America, the N.E.S. was one of, if not the, most important game console of all time. In 1991, a storm swept over the international arcade scene.  Street Fighter II swept the world, invigorating the arcade scene, determine the future of the ongoing home console war, and bringing a small genre fully into the public eye.  Much like Doom's effect on the First Person Shooter, Street Fighter 2 was followed by a legion of knock offs and clones, some mere travesties, and some with innovative and original ideas that would go on to further define the 2D VS.
