The Ten Week Journey - 3 views

How many times have I heard someone say, "I would love to learn another language." But next to none of those I have heard make such a statement are doing anything about it. A quote I recently came across explains why I think: "If you are interested, you will do what is convenient. If you are committed, you will do whatever it takes." The reality is that many are interested in language learning, but few are committed. While this may seem like an end all statement of doom, there is hope. You we all have at one time or another been interested in something to which we later became committed. The key then to helping interested language learners become committed language learners is providing convenient steps toward learning another language that will at the same time move learners from merely interested in learning to the place of being committed to doing whatever it takes to learn. That is what I have tried to create in the Ten Week Journey at my website - The Everyday Language Learner. If you or someone you know has always wanted to learn another language, but never gotten around to it, the Ten Week Journey is for you.

What are five ways that you use your ipod, iphone or other mp3 player for language learning? How could we better utilize these tools for learning and empower learners to use them more effectively and efficiently?

Listening Libraries - 26 views

I am new here, but am wondering if others have created or seen language listening libraries. I know there are a lot of classroom teachers who have made them for their classes, but could anyone point me to any examples. I have created one for my own learning and for those learning Turkish. You can find it by googling "the Turkish listening library". I would like to see what others are doing as I begin to create a workshop on making your own listening libraries. Thanks.

I write The Everyday Language Learner to promote and empower self-directed language learners. I would love to hear what others are doing to learn and help others learn another language and to create a place to discuss how language learning is changing. Would love to invite you all by to visit and to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
