Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a infection when excessive growth of bacteria changes the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina and infection is very common among women aged 15 to 44.Having BV increases the chances of getting infected with other sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDs and increase the probability of early delivery during pregnancy.

Vaginal douching is a process of cleaning vagina with the equipment called douche by using liquids mainly water and vinegar or antiseptics. Douching is harmful; it can develop or spread the infection by altering the balance of bacteria present in vagina which leads to many serious diseases. It may increase the risk of bacterial vaginosis and other STDs and can cause vaginal irritation.
