Raz-Kids is an online and print reading program. All their books you can print, show on the big screen, or read online. Each book comes with activity sheets and other extension activities. The online program allows kids to listen to a book be read to them or they can read it themselves. They are also able to take a comprehension quiz in the end. The program has levels A-Z and the teacher is able to place the student at the appropriate reading level. My students love the program, and they are in 5th grade. The readers for the online book read with such great expression, some of the images move and there is sometimes background noise to help students connect to what they are reading.

I also began using this program this year when I got a free year of it! It is great and I really want our school to get it for everyone next year. I love pulling up books on the smart board and letting students come up to point and read the books to us! So useful!

This website has a variety of online books. They are free and have read aloud audio. Besides the stories there are other tools on the site that can be used. I have used this is my class to read an Arthur book that I did not have. Great resource!

Scholastic BookFlix is a new interactive online literacy resource for Grades PreK-3 that pairs fictional video storybooks from Weston Woods with classic nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic.

StoryJumper: publish your own children's book.Storyjumper allows you to create online books using a variety of characters, scenes, and props. Teachers can create student accounts for them to have as like a file to store their stories. I thought this would be a neat way to provide online writing to support different reading elemnts (setting, characters, etc).

The official web site of the Gaston-Lincoln Regional Library, Gaston County, North Carolina. Through the tab "online databases" you can get free access to tumble books and start squad which are both nice literacy rich sites for younger kids. Also has research guides on a variety of subjects online.

BigUniverse.com is an online tool that has both fiction and non fiction texts and picture books for pre-k to 8th grade. Students can also write their own stories and take quizzes on books they have read!

This site is a free online poster site. This would be wonderful for students to use in order to create posters of a biography that has been read, or on a topic for research in the lab. Other suggestions might be the identification of the summary of a story or the characters listed in a story. One might even create a wanted poster of a character to focus on traits. The possibilities are endless!
