This is a good example of why it's important to focus less on the SME and more on the community. If you can get the SME pulled into a community of practice, the SME can share information and experience, and the community can determine the value of what the SME shares. This allows the SME to participate in the development of a new generation of learners and it gives the learner control over what needs to be learned.
