ONLamp.com -- Introduction to Stackless Python - 0 views

  • What's the relation between these benefits and Stackless's implementation details? Here's a quick sketch: Continuations are the general-purpose concurrency construct. A continuation represents all the future computations of a particular program. Capturing all this control flow in a single conceptual object makes it programmable: It becomes possible to calculate or reason over the control flow. In particular, there's great scope for optimizing assignment of different calculations to different processes or threads or even hosts.

Py++ introduction - 0 views

  • What is Py++? Definition: Py++ is an object-oriented framework for creating a code generator for Boost.Python library. Py++ uses few different programming paradigms to help you to expose C++ declarations to Python. This code generator will not stand on your way. It will guide you through the whole process. It will raise warnings in the case you are doing something wrong with a link to the explanation. And the most important it will save your time - you will not have to update code generator script every time source code is changed.

GUESS: The Graph Exploration System - 0 views

  • GUESS is an exploratory data analysis and visualization tool for graphs and networks. The system contains a domain-specific embedded language called Gython (an extension of Python, or more specifically Jython) which supports the operators and syntactic sugar necessary for working on graph structures in an intuitive manner. An interactive interpreter binds the text that you type in the interpreter to the objects being visualized for more useful integration. GUESS also offers a visualization front end that supports the export of static images and dynamic movies

pyPdf - 0 views

  • A Pure-Python library built as a PDF toolkit. It is capable of: extracting document information (title, author, ...), splitting documents page by page, merging documents page by page, cropping pages, merging multiple pages into a single page, encrypting and decrypting PDF files. By being Pure-Python, it should run on any Python platform without any dependencies on external libraries. It can also work entirely on StringIO objects rather than file streams, allowing for PDF manipulation in memory. It is therefore a useful tool for websites that manage or manipulate PDFs.

Introduction To New-Style Classes in Python - 0 views

  • Here's what new-style classes have to offer: Properties: Attributes that are defined by get/set methods Static methods and class methods The new __getattribute__ hook, which, unlike __getattr__, is called for every attribute access, not just when the attribute can't be found in the instance Descriptors: A protocol to define the behavior of attribute access through objects Overriding the constructor __new__ Metaclasses (not discussed)

Charming Python: Functional programming in Python, Part 1 - 0 views

This article discusses general concepts of functional programming, and illustrates ways of implementing functional techniques in Python. We'd better start with the hardest question: "What is functional programming (FP), anyway?" One answer would be to say that FP is what you do when you program in languages like Lisp, Scheme, Haskell, ML, OCAML, Clean, Mercury, or Erlang (or a few others). That is a safe answer, but not one that clarifies very much. Unfortunately, it is hard to get a consistent opinion on just what FP is, even from functional programmers themselves. A story about elephants and blind men seems apropos here. It is also safe to contrast FP with "imperative programming" (what you do in languages like C, Pascal, C++, Java, Perl, Awk, TCL, and most others, at least for the most part).

Guide to Python introspection - 5 views

  • Objects that represent potential behavior (functions and methods) can be invoked, or called. We can test an object's callability with the callable() function:
