Web 2.0 for the Under 13s crowd - 6 views

  •
Many of the Web tools out there are restricted to users 13 and over. To save others at school some time,John Pearce has compiled a list of popular/well known Web tools that can and can't be used by children under 13 - 1), so we are legally covered in what we are allowing our students to use and 2), so they know what is available. Please note that generally the sites that allow for under 13s still ask for parental permission ( even Edmodo if you haven't read the Terms of Use) so a solid school user agreement is needed to use these tools. Some of the sites are not US based so are not bound by COPPA and CIPA regulations. It still requires schools to carefully check out what can be viewed on these sites to ensure they are appropriate to access."

A Maths Dictionary for Kids 2010 by Jenny Eather - 3 views

  •
A Maths Dictionary for Kids provides simple and clear definitions of math terms. Each definition includes a small diagram or simple activity to illustrate the term's definition. A Maths Dictionary for Kids does not have a search option, but it doesn't need one as all definitions appear alphabetically just like in a physical dictionary.

Good Teachers Don't Need Technology | doug woods - 6 views

  • For me a good teacher will know that ‘learning’ is more important than ‘teaching’.
  • A good teacher will select and match resources to fit the ability and levels of the learners. A good teacher will not reject a resource simply because it is a technology resource
  • For me a good teacher will make effective and extensive use of technology to support learning. A good teacher will be constantly evaluating the technology and will be seeking new ways of using technology in their teaching. A good teacher will observe how the learners use technology and will seek to harness such uses to support learning.

  • A teacher in the 21st century who doesn’t feel that technology can help them in their teaching is probably not a good teacher.

Backup, download flickr photos & sets in batches (Mac, Windows & Linux) - 3 views

This is a great applications for downloading multiple creative commons images from flickr at once. It is an Adobe Air application that you download and install on your computer, you then search for a tag, and it allows you to select up to 50 photos to download to your desktop. Would be really useful for primary and infants classes. It saves you time as you do not need to download each image individually.

Here is a great review of a new PBS website which allows you to create a habitat based on the needs to a fictional  character. Once the students have finished creating the habitat, they could download it as a JPEG. Has some great tips on ways it could be useful in the classroom, too!
