Many of the Web tools out there are restricted to users 13 and over. To save others at school some time,John Pearce has compiled a list of popular/well known Web tools that can and can't be used by children under 13 - 1), so we are legally covered in what we are allowing our students to use and 2), so they know what is available. Please note that generally the sites that allow for under 13s still ask for parental permission ( even Edmodo if you haven't read the Terms of Use) so a solid school user agreement is needed to use these tools. Some of the sites are not US based so are not bound by COPPA and CIPA regulations. It still requires schools to carefully check out what can be viewed on these sites to ensure they are appropriate to access."

And yet another great story of the iPad being a 'life changing' device for people with disabilities... please take the time to read- worth sharing with your staff and particularly of interest for students with special needs.

A great online dictionary, the supporting visuals are the strength here. Great for ESL or those students needing extra support with vocab

I like this one too, but wish it was a bit easier to save/load pictures... Also like that your previous searches go under the current search...

A Maths Dictionary for Kids provides simple and clear definitions of math terms. Each definition includes a small diagram or simple activity to illustrate the term's definition. A Maths Dictionary for Kids does not have a search option, but it doesn't need one as all definitions appear alphabetically just like in a physical dictionary.

For those who may not be aware Jeanette Davies has compiled some fantastic tutorials the capabilities within the iPad- well worth a look particularly in supporting special needs students.

From addition words and elementary math to geometry vocabulary and every type of number word in between, students can find the right list right here with all the math definitions they need to be successful in math.

This is a great applications for downloading multiple creative commons images from flickr at once. It is an Adobe Air application that you download and install on your computer, you then search for a tag, and it allows you to select up to 50 photos to download to your desktop. Would be really useful for primary and infants classes. It saves you time as you do not need to download each image individually. 

Here is a great review of a new PBS website which allows you to create a habitat based on the needs to a fictional  character. Once the students have finished creating the habitat, they could download it as a JPEG. Has some great tips on ways it could be useful in the classroom, too!

Another good site to prac basic facts and also spelling. Students compete against other students. No need to sign up to play.
