Crime and policing data specific to the City of Lincoln, NE. Description: The Crime Analysis Unit reviews all Lincoln Police Department reports and identifies crime patterns by analyzing people, patterns, places and problems. Crime patterns are also recognized by utilizing tools and techniques implemented by other law enforcement agencies in doing Predictive and Preventive Analysis.  The unit maintains criminal intelligence information, Crime Stoppers, and the Leads OnLine pawn database. The unit coordinates and produces the monthly ACUDAT (Analyzing Crime Using Data About Trends) document and meeting, which is LPD's version of COMPSTAT. The Crime Analysis Unit also assists with statistical analysis requests by outside law enforcement agencies, universities, citizens, and business entities.

Free to use, and designed for public health professionals. Be sure to check out "trend data" and download the reports for your reference. Statewide data, with some local data sources, on health, economy education, business, and other social determinants of health. Please note that you can try the search term "open data portal" for any state/county/town to see what is available. Description: Maryland's Open Data Program provides transparency so that businesses, residents, visitors, and civil servants can use state data to aid in decision making. The transparency of data helps improve accountability, as data owners share the responsibility for ensuring that data is accurate, up-to-date and available to the public. Each January, the Council on Open Data makes it's Annual Open Data Report available to the public.

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is an economic development partnership agency of the federal government and Does it does not give you the option to pull data yourself, ARC produces a variety of research reports, chartbooks, and evaluations where you can pull county level data. Includes static maps. ARC consists of 13 state governments focusing on 423 counties across the Appalachian Region. ARC's mission is to innovate, partner, and invest to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth in Appalachia to help the Region achieve socioeconomic parity with the nation.

Data visualization of state level data on incarceration and other criminal justice statistics. Pulls from primary source data - U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics data. Provides high level and detailed data. Excellent place to access data that is often difficult to find. Great starting point.

Extensive library of tools and resources about dental therapy. Dental therapists are mid-level practitioners (think PA) who can provide dental services to under resourced populations. It is especially relevant to rural areas. Much of the work was led by tribal groups in Alaska who had a desperate need for dental care. The American Dental Association fought hard against this program - seeing it as a threat to their profession - but without providing any reasonable solution to the rural dental health desert. I attended this congressional hearing and it was HEATED. Senator Al Franken called out the ADA, which I can say was quite satisfying. Good example of a structural intervention.
