This page describes a company that has released some textbooks under Creative Commons, and descibes how these open resources are used.

This sight can help you understand copyright law and fair use of copyrighted materials for educational purposes. A lot of the information and media on the World Wide Web is copyrighted. It is important for students and teachers to not infringe on copyright in the name of creating presentations or lessons for schools.

Larry Lessig is a lawyer and activist for sensible intellectual property law for the digital age. He was a founding board member of Creative Commons, an organization that builds better copyright practices through principles established first by the open-source software community.

This enables kids to create many different kinds of digital graphs and charts. They can enter the parameters and any number of data points (though I'm sure there's a limit at some point). Unfortunately, it is not a co-creation tool, as the most sharing/collaborating that can be done is to email the finished graph to someone. It is, however, a nice tool to use individually.

This is a quick video that explains what Creative Commons provides. Copy right is a controversial topic on the web and creative commons provides an outlet for like-minded creative types to share their stuff. I think it is a good topic to address with students.

Copyright Friendly links to music and sound that students can use. This link comes from a list of CopyFriendly resources, but I wanted to link this one in particular because I know how easy it is to forget about the copyright rules when using music and sound.

This is a site containing activities that involve online collaboration between classrooms. Classrooms can register for collaborative projects that are featured on the site.

This seems like a versatile tool. It includes forums, allows users to post attachments, and also allows teachers to share resources.

I found this article interesting. I've seen a lot of articles suggesting the use of different tools, but nothing about how these tools should actually be used. I found this informative.

This blog links three short TED talks that creatively address technology in education across the world. The specifics of the talks may not focus on collaborative technology, but I believe that the TED initiative itself is all about collaboration and making resources accessible.

This article explains how the new software and technology that has been incorporated into the Tahoma School District has provided significant opportunity for students in the special education program. The article outlines several specific software programs and apps that students use to overcome print disabilities, speech impairment, and a number of other physical and academic disabilities.

Bookshare is a website funded by a non-profit initiative to provide digital reading materials to people with print disabilities. The purpose is to allow these individuals timely access to materials that they might otherwise not be able to read because of their disability. The website relies on collaboration from others in order to add new materials to their digital library.
