Students from two classes in the K6-8 school, Istituto Comprensivo Lipari II, Aeolian Islands, volunteered to adopt a monument in Lipari. The monument is a hypogeum, an underground chambre with big niches for sarcophagus and loculi for buried remains.
A research paper by John Seely Brown, Allan Collins and Paul Duguid, one of my favorites - Authors discuss learning theory and how conventional schooling too often ignores the influence of school culture on what is learned in school. Good background for why PBL works, especially the info on using tools.
A learning philosophy that I think goes hand in hand with any project styled learning situation. a constructivist approach to early education. "Reggio Emilia's approach does challenge some conceptions of teacher competence and developmentally appropriate practice. For example, teachers in Reggio Emilia assert the importance of being confused as a contributor to learning; thus a major teaching strategy is purposely to allow mistakes to happen, or to begin a project with no clear sense of where it might end."
