"honor killings" - this is the kind of thing Sam Harris (see this week's lecture) says we might be able to get past if we take a more 'scientific' view of morality.

'Angry Birds' May Slingshot Into Starbucks in Retail Expansion - 2 views

  •
Angry Birds is expanding from your cell phone to Barnes and Noble and now Starbucks. The gaming world is entering coffee shops.
  •
What do you think is the moral issue in this, Marissa?
  •
I guess I don't think the idea of pelting pigs with birds is very moral in itself. It seems like a lot of video games are about killing and after working with elementary kids, a lot of the anger issues are stemming from video games/movies/television. I think video games are over taking our world. However, I do suppose it is a wise marketing strategy for Starbucks.

Professional ethics should be at the heart of what each and every one of us does - 1 views

Being a pre-law student, I found this article especially interesting. It really does help to show why attorney's are seen so negatively sometimes. The article mentions how no one wants to pay for bad news, but sometimes that's what lawyers have to give to be ethical; the truth isn't always what we want, but it's often what we need. If attorney's told clients what they wanted to hear, even if it was not true, it could ultimately cost the client even more money and even get them into trouble.

Very good article on the moral dimension of the work lawyers do--as opposed to the usual focus on the moral character of lawyers themselves; interesting points on compensation as well.

Where does morality fit in for youth? - 1 views

"However, as an atheist myself, I've always rejected the claim that more spiritual folks can command a monopoly on virtue and ethics. It's certainly possible for nonbelievers to live a "good" life, and even my most faithful compatriots agree with this sentiment." Sounds like a sound statement to me

In our occupation, we should not be saying, "I'm just doing my job". We should have a moral obligation to do the right thing the right way while at work. Definately goes along with practical wisdom.

This is a video that talks about the news release of Obama deploying 100 US troops to Central Africa to help find and bring Joseph Kony (a man who has engaged Central Africa in war for 26 years, has killed hundreds of thousands, and kidnaps children and forces them to fight in his army) to justice. This group has come together because three guys saw a moral and ethical problem and wanted to do what they could to change it.
