  • Both hyper-texters (19.8 percent of the teens surveyed) and hyper-networkers (11.5 percent ) were found to be more likely to be minority, female, and living without a father in the home, according to the study.
  • Nearly a quarter of the students reported not texting at all (22.5 percent) or no involvement in online social networks (22.2 percent). No texting or social networking was associated with better health outcomes.
