Integrative Considerations during the COVID 3.18.20.pdf - 1 views

  •
Recommended by Dr. Michael Kurisu D.O.: There is a high level of interest in integrative strategies to augment public health measures to prevent COVID-19 infection and associated pneumonia. Unfortunately, no integrative measures have been validated in human trials. Notwithstanding, this is an opportune time to be proactive. Using available in-vitro evidence, an understanding of the virulence of COVID-19, as well as data from similar, but different, viruses, we offer the following strategies to consider. Again, we stress that these are supplemental considerations to the current recommendations that emphasize regular hand washing, social distancing, stopping non-essential travel, and getting tested if you develop symptoms.

Mt. Sinai Merger Shuts New York's Integrative Medicine "Crown Jewel" - 0 views

Kligler and I spoke at length about the turns of events leading to the decision. At the core of our exchange was the vulnerability of these stand-alone clinics amidst leadership changes and system mergers. I shared that I had recently interviewed his frequent colleague, University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine's executive director Victoria Maizes, MD about the shutdown of ACIM's Phoenix-based integrative health clinic. Maizes had referenced what she viewed as a parallel with the Continuum story. In both cases, the clinics seemed to be collateral damage to a larger merger with a dominant player who didn't have much interest in the field.

(The Genomics of Obesity with Sharon Hausman-Cohen, MD - YouTube - 0 views

  •
American Nutrition Association The Genomics of Obesity Sharon Hausman-Cohen, MD The modernization of our society has contributed to higher rates of obesity through an environment that promotes increased caloric intake and decreased physical activity. However, recent studies suggest that genetics may contribute to 40-70% of obesity with the discovery of more than 50 genes that are strongly associated with obesity. Changes in the environment have significantly increased obesity rates over the last 20 years, and the presence or absence of genetic factors can protect us from or predispose us to obesity in conjunction with diet and lifestyle factors that support healthy weight. In this webinar, Dr. Hausman-Cohen will * Describe how the leptin pathway is interrelated to the functions of genes in the hypothalamus, as well as how inflammation, fat absorption and insulin can contribute to obesity. * Discuss how specific food intake can be linked to obesity risk and how weight loss can be individualized based on a patient's genomics. * Attain practical ways of discussing various obesity interventions and patterns with patients - whether or not practitioners have access to patient genomic data. "People Science is a tech-led platform that will connect health minded people, research scientists, and healthcare providers in an effort to unlock the potential of alternative medicines. Too little is known about alternative medicines like medical cannabis, prebiotics and probiotics, nutritional supplements, psychedelics, and other plant-based medicines. That's about to change. Our goal is to help people understand which alternative medicines can best help them on their path to wellness. Doctors will learn more too. By connecting health minded people with doctors and research scientists on our cutting edge platform, C.H.L.O.E., we will advance our collective knowledge of alternative medicines. This will also assist manufacturers to develop better products backed by rigorous scientific testing and research."
