How to get a photography grant - 0 views

  •
A photography grant is a monetary award given to produce original artwork for a specified project. There are several steps to take in order to be successful in receiving a photography grant. First, you must decide the original artwork that you would produce if you were to receive a grant. This must be specific, including where you would go, what you would shoot, how it would be shown, etc. This framework will then allow you to discover what grants you qualify for and which you should apply for. With your criteria in mind, do an extensive internet search to find matches between your outline and the criteria for receiving a grant. You can also find grants in books such as "The complete guide to getting a grant: how to turn your ideas into dollars" by Laurie Blum. The internet and books are key in helping find grants that you qualify for. Once you find grants that fit, you need to find the grant application online or by calling or mailing a request for a grant application. Apply for several grants. This gives you more opportunities in being successful.

Likes: 1. Pages showing art use the artwork as their background, which is attractive 2. Description of art is clear and out in the open--not hard to find, and readable 3. There are two thumbnail options to click on: to view the full piece of art, and to view a zoomed-in photo (nice to be able to see detail) Dislikes: 1. Trajan font is overused, and the rest of the fonts don't work very well together... 2. The links in the "artists" section don't lead anywhere... 3. Navigation between artwork pages is confusing--doesn't give much direction.

Likes: 1. Very simple, clean, and straight-forward as a web site - allows the photographs to take main stage. 2. Although pictures have no immediate headings, they are organized somewhat by colors/theme. The viewer understands where one project ends and another begins. 3. Understands that his artwork/name has credibility, and allows the photos to speak for themselves. 4. Links at bottom of the page give some indication of affiliation/interests without so many words. 5. Website theme colors coordinate with photos (cool colors dominate) - give the site a unified feel and look. Dislikes: 1. Although the simplicity of the site is a plus, there is absolutely no info about each photo taken. Although most of the pictures speak for themselves bc they're of celebrities/pop culture, not all viewers will know the info not provided. 2. A little more organization (or breaking up of the photos) would be nice. 3. Images when clicked are too big (need to scroll to see some full images); thumbnails are very tiny. No in-between.

Pros: 1. Simple, elegant design that doesn't distract from the artwork 2. A large selection of exhibited images 3. He markets his work on the site by offering prints. Cons: 1. I don't like how the images open in a separate window to be viewed. Kind of awkward. 2. The text is too small and is too similar to the background colors 3. the 'press' page doesn't offer specific information or links

Pro's: 1. All her information is available on the home page 2. Personalized content: she really offers a lot about herself 3. A large inventory of images Cons; 1. The site is confusing: moving between pages is not very clear, it almost seems as if her artwork pages are different sites altogether 2. The organization of information could be clearer (maybe categories instead of everything presented together at once) 3. The "enter" page should only function as just that, I don't think the image displayed should work as links to other pages at this point.
