Over the past decade, tremendous progress has been made in ensureing that families have access to hearing screening when a baby is born. Approximately 95% of babies now receive a hearing screen shortly after birth. Now, greater emphasis must be placed on training early childhood education and health care providers.

She also explains the specific types of motor control a baby must master before the next milestone can be achieved. Dr. Shulman is associate professor of clinical pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and an attending physician in pediatrics at The Children's Hospital at Montefiore. She is also director of the RELATE program for the diagnosis and treatment of autism and related disorders at Einstein's Children's Evaluation and Rehabilitation (CERC).

Nao is a 22-inch humanoid robot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2STTNYNF4lk) designed by Aldebaran, a French robotics manufacturer, that has been put to work by the psychology department at the University of Notre Dame. Nao’s purpose: to help researchers determine if the aid of a sophisticated robot can enhance the therapy experience for children with autism by bridging the gulf between the world of human social interaction that so often leaves them perplexed, anxious and frustrated and the world of science and technology that they prefer.

Heather Locke is a senior at Polson High School in Polson, Montana. Heather is a kid with "special needs". The Polson High School senior class took it upon themselves to make Heather the 2009 Homecoming Queen. The fact that it was Heather's classmates, the kids themselves that came up with this idea and chose to make it a reality is remarkable by any measure and restores one's faith in humanity. Deaf actress Marlee Matlin is exploring an idea for a unique reality TV show: It’s called “My Deaf Family” and it’s about growing up with deaf parents. Matlin created a pilot for the series and made it available for free on YouTube.
