Playful Engagement as Serious Strategy CCA - Educause Summary - 1 views

  •
Can, or should, a university library be a place for playfulness and creativity? This presentation will answer the question by considering issues of creativity and playful engagement in organisations. It will draw upon recent experiences with participatory events at the University of Technology, Sydney Library which involved participants' playful engagement with each other and with issues related to the future of information and knowledge work. Two projects will be discussed in some detail. One is the Library Strategic Planning 2010-2011 and another Clients of the Future project involving students from a local comprehensive high school. The common theme of these projects was the focus on the future of libraries and new ways of working. Participants in both projects discussed their ideas about work and communication in digital and physical spaces through playful engagement and situations, which fostered discussions and creative responses. Library staff and high school students arrived to remarkably similar visions pointing towards a future direction for academic libraries.
