Our day yesterday was a lot of fun! The weather was ok , the highs in the 40's the lows in the 20's. According to our trucks outside weather gauge. It rained, it hailed and it snowed. So you can imagine blue skies were hard to find. Wildlife was not hard to find, like most days. They still need to eat regardless of the weather. We climbed down into the canyon to watch three bald eagles fish and do what they do. We climbed out back onto the road and seen a golden eagle in a tree. He took off as we watched him go further up into the canyon another pair of bald eagle came out of no where and started attacking the golden eagle in mid flight. It is said the Bald Eagle soars at 35-43 mph. We watched this and got in the truck to go where the action was. We seen the bald eagles attacking for a little bit when the golden eagle went up high, and started attacking the bald eagles one at a time!

While deep in the Ochoco Mountains we ran across a nice flowing creek. I love running water and just had to stop!! There were at least 3 of these birds, however non of them were all that impressed with any of us there! From the information I gathered of this bird, these must of been truly wild Gray Jays!! Not yet ingrained with human presents. I first thought this was a nutcracker. We have many of those around so it seams. Same family as these Gray Jays, but so is the steller's jay,blue jay and the western scrub jay , the crows, the ravens there is a lot of species in the Corvidae family!! From the sub species of the Gray Jay and getting these photographs in the Ochoco mountains this determined these to be the Bicolored Gray Jay. One thing all these birds have in common is, they are very smart!! Smarter then humans give them credit for! Over the Cascade Mountains there is yet another sub species of the Gray Jay over there with different needs and habits. That Gray Jay does not like snow, the ones here better like snow! As the New Year rolls in, I find myself looking forward to new things-new directions, new goals, new relationships. But with the start of a new year also comes a time for reflection (literally) of what I've accomplished and how much I've progressed. As I perform my annual "house cleaning"-purging old work which isn't up to snuff, and transferring the remaining photos to yet another new hard drive (I'm amassing quite the collection)-I've had the opportunity to put a fresh set of eyes on everything I've shot over the past year or so.
