A 31-year-old Kamiah man today was sentenced to 90 days in jail, given credit for 90 days served, placed on six years of supervised probation, and fined $530.50 for having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl. Daniel Funderburg, who is a former Idaho County Sheriff's Deputy, pled guilty under a Rule 11 Plea Agreement in Lewis County's Second District Court to one count of sexual battery - "committed by lewd or lascivious acts on a minor child 16 or 17 years of age." He was arrested on December 5th on a $250,000 warrant. Court documents say that Funderburg and the girl began their relationship as early as July of last year with just talking, but it eventually led to more. The girl told investigators that they had sex five to ten times, and all - but a nature trail encounter - took place at Funderburg's Kamiah home. He was fired by the Idaho County Sheriff's Office as of December 28th, according to officials.

The arrest followed a St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office investigation launched in 2011 that resulted in a search warrant being served at Bates' home, which he shared with his wife and two sons in the 5700 block of Northwest Belwood Circle, an affidavit stated.

A former Canton, Missouri police officer will spend nearly the next year in jail for sex crimes against a minor. Jamie Bell, 25, pleaded guilty last August to a charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 16-year-old minor. Tuesday a judge sentenced him to 360 days in the Adams County Jail and 36 months probation for the crime. Bell was arrested February 2012 for the alleged abuse. Bell has been free on bond since March.

A former Royal Oak police officer was sentenced to one year in prison for the child pornography found on his home computer. Michael Stephen Smith, 41, was sentenced Wednesday in Oakland County Circuit court. Smith, who lived in Holly, worked as a police officer for Royal Oak until he was fired in January 2012. Michigan's Attorney General Bill Schuette charged Smith with 20 counts related to the pornography. Schuette said from September 2011 through January 2012, Smith downloaded and possessed pornography on his home computer.

A former dispatcher with the Winston-Salem Police Department was sentenced Thursday to five years in federal prison for possessing child pornography. But Raymond Edward Kish, a former U.S. Marine who helped with rescue efforts in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks on the Pentagon, said in U.S. District Court that he was never interested in child pornography. His addiction was to adult pornography that started when he was 8 years old and was molested by a relative. Kish, 35, said in court that he has struggled with his addiction to adult pornography for 27 years, and since his arrest has gone to counseling to deal with that and the sexual abuse he endured as a child.

A woman who was raped three years ago by a Milwaukee police officer responding to a 911 call she made has filed a lawsuit against him, the city, police department and police chief. In her lawsuit, the woman accuses the imprisoned former officer, Ladmarald Cates, of violating her civil rights and leaving her with emotional distress by attacking her in July 2010. She also accuses police officials and the city of failing to properly discipline Cates for previous violations, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Harry Nicoletti, 61, of Coraopolis, a former guard at State Correctional Institution Pittsburgh, will spend six months on house arrest. Prosecutors said Nicoletti led a group of guards who targeted inmates convicted of sex crimes involving minors.
