In an undergraduate Information Technology class we kept blogs on any theme we wanted, but each post had to relate to that theme and technology. One aspect that worked with this online learning community was the range of technologies that surfaced over the many different topics. The limited amounts of constraints lead to a very natural and diverse final product for the blogs as a whole. One struggle with blogs as an online learning community was the disconnection between the blogs. Since each blog is created individually by different students, there is no common page where all students could be located. This issue leads me to my piece of advice for blogs as on online learning community. In order to create the connection between the students, have each student email their blog's web address to the class or post it on a common message board. Then, each student can follow the other students which will make it easier to keep up with the other blogs.
