I have started using Google Sites this year, and I am very happy with the format of it (which I originally was skeptical of as I was used to the pbworks format). At this point, we use it as a class for projects, plus each student has their own site that they use a reading portfolio, I have also used it professionally. We have a large conference being held at our school this summer, and using a site as allowed for easier communication, documentation, and organization (and eliminated a lot of emails!)
One thing I hope to see Google improve, is the ease in which you can move pages. Students struggle a little with the dropping of folders into one area and end up dropping them in the wrong place and leaving them:(.
Hi Christie, I agree that using google sites can be productive in a classroom setting. The past few years I created a google site as a class website for my students. I included different pages for the students to access. I think having student have their own site to use a reading portfolio is a great idea. I do agree with you about the format or google sites. It can be somewhat confusing to use and isn't as user-friendly. I switch to using a yola site (www.yola.com) this year and have found it much easier to use. I have taught some of my students how to create their own websites using yola. It's easy for them to understand and navigate.
