Two-wheelers come with a greater risk of mishaps as they are lighter in weight. This is a threat to not only the rider but also to the third party involved.

Hence, taking two-wheeler insurance is mandatory in India under The Motor Vehicle Act.

There are two kinds of coverage offered under two-wheeler insurance policies in India; third-party and comprehensive bike insurance.

I will list down the damages covered by them in detail-

Third-party covers only protect the policyholder against third-party liabilities that can include damage to third-party property, injuries to the third party or death of a third party. It does not cover the damages to your bike.

The comprehensive policy provides a more extensive cover for a vehicle along with mandatory third-party liability insurance. The comprehensive policy protects your two-wheeler against the following damages-

1)Man-made calamities - Damages to your bike due to theft, vandalism, riot, terrorist activities, etc are covered.

2)Natural Calamities - Damages caused due to natural disasters like cyclones, floods, earthquakes, lightning, etc are also covered.

3)Personal protection - The policyholder is compensated by the insurance company in case of disability or morbidity suffered by the insured during an accident while driving the insured vehicle.
