Although I have used computers and web based technology and resources with students for many years now, this was the first year I had access to a class set of netbooks on a daily basis. In the past, students shared the computers and laptops available in the classroom, used the Promethean board for interactive learning, or visited the computer lab whenever the timetable permitted. Link 5:  http://realorsatire.com/worldnewsdailyreport-com/ This was chosen to show that there are many sites out there that are not as reliable as you may think. World News Daily Report sounds legit, but when on their page, you can soon start to realize that their journal is faux. Although the articles may be based off of something true, there is so much false information in it causing it to be a fake news article. This is why you need Google Custom Search Engines. They cut out the hassle of clicking on false information websites. How helpful and convenient is that? #lessonplan #websites

Taking Charge of the Web in Your Classroom | Scholastic.com - 0 views

  • Students will undoubtedly have already encountered the digital world by the time they enter your classroom, but they may not have considered the consequences of their online actions. Here are several common-sense rules for users under the age of 13, the maximum age that the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act considers an individual a “child”:
  • Stick to kid-friendly search engines. Search engines are indispensable tools for web-based research. Most, however, are too indiscriminate to be useful to young users. For example, searching for "White House" on Google returns almost three billion results, most of which will be irrelevant or inappropriate for students.

These suggestions should be considered in every classroom no matter how much technology is used.  If technology is used at all, teachers need to pay attention to these.
  •
An excellent source on the teacher's role in taking charge of the internet in the classroom.
