"The Special Education Assistive Technology (SEAT) Center at Illinois State University is a community of people working together to help individuals with disabilities realize the democratic ideal through assistive technology (AT). The SEAT Center was approved as a Center by the state legislature in 2001. The SEAT Center focuses on teaching preservice and practicing professionals the skills they need to meet the technology needs of people with disabilities through instruction that is practical, "hands-on", and performance-based. Instruction provided at the SEAT Center emphasizes developing competence in both AT and other types of technology (e.g., instructional technology, adaptive equipment) that can improve the education and quality of life for persons with disabilities. "The KidTools software is made for children to support their success in school, home, and community. The software provides two programs to help students. KidTools helps students with behaviors by targeting behaviors, to change, making behavior plans, following agreements, and self-monitoring. KidSkills helps students get organized, learn new information and pass tests, plan to get homework done, and work on projects with other students. eKidTools and eKidSkills are for elementary students. iKidTools and iKidSkills are for intermediate/middle school students. The tools are easy to create and can be printed for use. All you need is a Windows platform computer and a place to save the tool records. "

"Just as a carpenter needs to locate and use the correct tool for the job, teachers need to select technology tools to assist all learners in the classroom. Many tools can also assist in providing Tier 1 differentiated instruction for all learners and Universal Design for Learning. Use this wiki to learn about Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Response to Intervention (RTI), free web tools and assistive technology (AT). Each set of "tools" might not be all encompassing. Continuing the carpenter analogy, every tool available is not necessary in order to complete a successful project. In addition some manual tools (non-technology) might be better than power tools (technology tools) for some projects. Teachers can fill their own toolbox with specialized tools to make learning more effective and efficient for all all students."

Karen Erickson's observation forms for visiting their model classrooms. "# Read about some of the key activities that will be observed in the classrooms: * Shared Reading * Self-Selected Reading * Self-Selected Writing # Download the three guided observation forms for the above activities. Visitors will need to bring these forms to the visit. Visitors will use these forms to guide their observation of shared reading, self-selected reading and self-selected writing. The forms are organized by the key components and steps of the lessons with places to take notes, as well as places to jot down questions for the teacher. In order to make the time as productive as possible, these completed forms will be used to structure the discussion with the teacher /after/ the lesson. When the school visit is over, the observation forms can be a valuable lesson planner for visitors who want to implement these activities in their own classrooms. * Shared Reading Guided Observation Form * Self-Selected Reading Guided Observation Form * Self-Selected Writing Guided Observation Form"
