"Finding software for the iPod, iPhone and iPad devices specifically to assist those with speech & language difficulties can be a difficult affair. Equally keeping ontop of the rapidly expanding field is hard too. This site, developed to complement SpeechBubble, is designed to help individuals requiring independent information regarding the current apps out on the market."

Spubble - Home - 1 views

"Spubble is aimed at assisting individuals with verbal communication issues, by allowing them to communicate using a unique and intuitive interface. It allows the user to "speak" individual words, simply by tapping on them, and it allows for complete phrase creation by dragging the word icons to a speech bubble (or "spubble") at the top of the screen. These icons can also be removed from the spubble simply by dragging them out. The entire phrase can be heard by tapping the green "play" button to the right of the "spubble". Tapping the red "home" button on the bottom of the screen takes the user back to the main categories screen. Spubble Lite provides 5 categories with up to 150 words: Food People Places Numbers General (Yes, No, Thank You, You're Welcome, Left, Right, Forward, Backward, etc.) "

iPOD THEREFORE I CAN: ENHANCING THE LEARNING OF CHILDREN WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES... - 0 views

  •
This paper explores the pedagogical and social potential of emerging technologies, in particular the iPod, in facilitating the learning of young Australians with severe intellectual and social disabilities. The study, which was carried out in a segregated educational setting in Victoria, Australia, sought to establish whether the intrinsic portable, multi-media capabilities of the iPod particularly lent themselves to a practical application for students with severe disabilities. It was concluded that such new technology has considerable power and potential as an emerging pedagogy with students with severe intellectual and physical disabilities.

Kidtools.missouri.edu - About KTSS Programs - 1 views

"KidTools and KidSkills are new kinds of software to help students take control of their learning, behavior, and problem solving to improve success in school. The tools are research-based and have undergone extensive testing with actual students in classroom settings. These software programs include a library of tools provided as easy-to-use templates for children to personalize and use independently in school and other settings. There are two levels of tools in each of these programs. eKidTools and eKidSkills are made for elementary students with some reading abilities, ages 7-10. Within eKidTools, there is a set of PictureTools made for preschool/primary children that do not require reading abilities. iKidTools and iKidSkills are made for intermediate/middle school students with reading abilities, ages 11-14. Because these tools are all related, children can move up and down the levels to use the tools that best fit their skills and needs. "

iPads as Assistive Technology: 30+ AAC Apps to Help Children | iPad Academy - 2 views

  •
I recently led an introductory iPad workshop for Communication Sciences and Disorders faculty at a local university. One of the resources I prepared for them was a list of iPad apps that might be useful in classes with the department's students or in the clinic with the children they serve. Many of these apps also have versions for the iPhone and iPod touch device. I compiled this list from a number of websites and articles I reviewed. These are not presented in any particular order. Those working directly with the children - teachers, clinicians, parents and other caregivers - can best judge which of these apps are most appropriate to meet a particular child's needs. UPDATE: I've added a PDF file you can download at the end of the list. The file gives the app name, a brief description, price and live URL link for each app."
