The Max-Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity, Department of Religious Diversity in Göttingen is offering
The Ph.D. fellowships are for 3-4 years. The dissertation will be defended at Utrecht University. The postdoctoral fellowships are for one or two years.
The research will be done in collaboration with the Center for the Study of Ethnic and Cultural Diversity in China at Minzu University in Beijing. The projects have to be on the following topics:
1. Study of the relations between Yi and Miao in Sichuan, Yunnan, and Vietnam
2. Study of the effects on ethnic minorities of the opening up of S.W. China to S.E. Asia
3. Social networks beyond ethnicity in China: Case study of the classmates and alumni of Minzu
Requirements:
For Postdoc: Ph.D. in Social /Cultural Anthropology, Religious Studies, Sociology, Political Science or other related disciplines of the Social Sciences or Humanities. Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese is expected.
For Ph.D. candidates: MA in Social /Cultural Anthropology, Religious Studies, Sociology, Political Science or other related disciplines of the Social Sciences or Humanities. Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese is expected.
The Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Basel awards one doctoral scholarship in the fields of Modern Jewish History, Jewish Literature, Modern Jewish Intellectual History, or Jewish Cultural History per December 1st 2013 or by agreement. The award is specifically aimed at female applicants.
Eligibility criteria:
- an excellent higher university degree that qualifies for doctoral Studies in Jewish Studies at the University of Basel
- willingness to work at the Centre for Jewish Studies (apart from possible trips to archives etc.)
- willingness to perform organisational and other tasks as part of the Centre team, possibly a teaching assignment
Suggestions for a dissertation topic can be submitted along with the application but are not mandatory. Possible topics can also be discussed with the Centre administration if the scholarship is awarded to the applicant. A possible topic could be a project within the context of the intended collaboration of the Centre of Jewish Studies with the archive of the National Library of Israel.
The scholarship will be awarded for 36 months and amounts to CHF 50'000 p.a. After 18 months of the intended funding period an interim report by the Centre administration on the status of the project will decide about the continued funding for the remaining duration of the stipend.
Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. (Deadline: February 5, 2014)
Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 to U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate education through specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency. Boren Fellowships support study and research in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. In exchange for funding, recipients commit to working in the federal government for a minimum of one year.
The award holder will engage in research on the changing nature of Quaker involvement with business in the twentieth century. Academic supervision of the doctoral thesis will be overseen by Professor Ben Pink Dandelion (Centre for Postgraduate Quaker Studies, Department of Theology and Religion).
Applicants should normally have, or be studying for, a Master's degree in Modern History, Religious Studies, Quaker Studies or a related discipline. Experience in archival research is preferred. The studentship is £17,000 per annum, payable termly. The standard University of Birmingham tuition fees will be paid by the student out of their studentship.
Western Washington University's Center for Pacific Northwest Studies welcomes applications for the James W. Scott Regional Research Fellowships, established to promote awareness and use of archival collections at Western and to forward scholarly understandings of the Pacific Northwest. The fellowships are awarded in honor of the late Dr. James W. (Jim) Scott, a founder and first Director of the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies, and a noted scholar of the Pacific Northwest region. The Center for Pacific Northwest Studies is a program of Western Libraries' Heritage Resources, located in the Goltz-Murray Archives Building.
Two awards of $500 each will be granted to scholars who propose to undertake significant research using archival holdings at the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies (CPNWS):
An award to a junior scholar (those in graduate programs or who have finished the Ph.D. within the last two years and/or are relatively new to the field of historical research and writing).
An award to a senior scholar (generally published authors or those more than three years out from the Ph.D.).
The Association for Jewish Studies is pleased to announce the Berman Foundation Dissertation Fellowships in Support of Research in the Social Scientific Study of the Contemporary American Jewish Community. The Berman Fellowships - two awards of $16,000 each for the 2014-15 academic year -aim to support the development and expansion of the field of the social scientific study of Jewish Americans and the contemporary Jewish-American experience; enhance funding opportunities for up-and-coming scholars in the midst of institutional cutbacks in higher education; and encourage graduate students in sociology, social psychology, social anthropology, demography, social work, economics, and political science to expand their research to include the study of North American Jewry. Fellowships will be awarded for one academic year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Preference will be given to applicants seeking support for doctoral research, but requests for funding to support the writing phase of the dissertation will also be considered. Support for this project is generously provided by the Mandell L. and Madeleine H. Berman Foundation.
Students may apply to TECHNE for a doctoral award by submitting a TECHNE application through Royal Holloway. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 19 February 2014. If you are interested in applying for a TECHNE award, the first step is to speak to a prospective supervisor or the Director of Graduate Studies in the relevant department. It is not possible to submit an application directly to TECHNE: you must apply through one of the member universities. Overseas students are not eligible for AHRC awards, and EU students are eligible for fees only.
Two types of studentships are available:
Doctoral Awards - circa 35 awards per annum for students who are applying to undertake PhD study. This includes those who are applying initially as an MPhil student with the intention to upgrade to PhD study. Rates for 2014/15 are £15,863 for maintenance and £3,996 for fees (three years full-time or part-time equivalen for five years).
Students who apply for a TECHNE award will be considered automatically for a College Scholarship.
Research Preparation Masters Studentships
Three highly competitive studentships are avalable for students who need to develop expertise in a new subject area or to acquire acadmic skills before undertaking a doctorate. Particular consideration will be given to those with substantial experience of practice who need to acquire theoretical skills. NB it will be necessary to re-apply for a doctoral award. Rates for 2014/15 are £11,681 for maintenance and £3,796 for fees (full time). Any difference between College fees and the AHRC fees award is waived. If you think you may be eligible please speak to the Director of Graduate Studies in the relevant department.
The Association for Women in Slavic Studies (AWSS) Graduate Research Prize is awarded annually to fund promising graduate-level research in any field of Slavic/East European/Central Asian Studies by a woman or on a topic in Women's or Gender Studies related to Slavic Studies/East Europe/Central Asia by either a woman or a man. Graduate students who are at any stage of master's or doctoral level research are eligible. Only graduate students are eligible for this prize.
The NEA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the National Education Association, is a public charity supported by contributions from educators' dues, corporate sponsors, and others. The foundation supports student success by helping public school educator's work with key partners to build strong systems of shared responsibility.
As part of an effort to achieve this goal, the foundation is inviting applications for its Learning and Leadership Grants program. The program provides support to public school teachers, public education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education through grants to individuals to fund participation in high-quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes or action research; or grants to groups fund collegial study, including study groups, action research, lesson study, or mentoring experiences for faculty or staff new to an assignment.
The grant amount is $2,000 for individuals and $5,000 for groups engaged in collegial study. All $5,000 group grant applicants must include partner information.

The DISCONEX research group "The Discursive Construction of Academic Excellence. Classifying Academic Researchers in the Social Sciences and Humanities", led by Professor Johannes Angermuller (Centre for Applied Linguistics, University of Warwick) is looking for candidates for a funded PhD position at the crossroads of language and society. Against a background in poststructuralist and constructivist social theory, DISCONEX studies the cultures, practices and knowledges of academic researchers in the social sciences and humanities. By having recourse to qualitative methods, the group will empirically investigate the social uses of academic publications in the social sciences and humanities (for more details http://www.johannes-angermuller.net/DISCONEX, another two stipends will be available from the French partner institution, CEMS/EHESS). The PhD projects will be in the domain of the Social Sciences and Humanities studies and should focus on the social dynamics of scientific communities in two interdisciplinary fields (for example in letters/linguistics/philosophy and in sociology/anthropology/media and culture studies, in English and possibly in French or German).
The student will learn about developing a public program. The series they will be focusing on celebrates the legacy of Afro-Latinos in the United States. For example, Arturo Schomburg, a black Puerto Rican bibliophile who African-American scholars like Carter G. Woodson, The Father of African-American History, benefitted from his collection of Pan-African scholarly works. Summer 2013 - $6,000/400 hours {10-20 weeks}.

he Fulbright-Hays DDRA Fellowship Program provides opportunities to doctoral candidates to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies. The program is designed to contribute to the development and improvement of the study of modern foreign languages and area studies in the United States.
The award recipient must come from an economically disadvantaged household, have attended a public school, participated in extracurricular programs including (an/or in addition to) programs supported by the Americans for the Arts (i.e., demonstrate a long term participation in the study of, creation in and/or performance in one or more art forms, including dance, music theatre, literary, visual/media arts), excelled academically, and formally declared the intent to study and apply economics in their pursuit of higher education and professional career. This includes the direct study of economics for policy purposes, to applications in the private and public sectors. The scholarship is open to both recent high school graduates and current college undergraduates who are majoring in economics and/or the arts.
Applications are invited for a partial studentship on the Buckingham University MA in Decorative Arts and Historic Interiors starting September 2014.
Generously funded by the Leche Trust, the bursary, worth £7500, will cover 82% of the course fees for EU students and 55% for international students. Priority will be given to applicants with excellent academic qualifications seeking, or currently pursuing, curatorial careers in museums or the built heritage. The bursary is also open to part-time students currently working in the field, who can take the course as a form of in-service training over two years.
This unique one-year MA in French and British Decorative Arts and Historic Interiors provides sounds vocational and academic training, first-hand study of furniture, silver and ceramics in the context of historic interiors, numerous study trips to museums and historic house collections, (including a study week in Paris) and placements in museums and heritage institutions.
The Caxton Club, an organization devoted to "the literary study and promotion of the arts pertaining to the production of books," offers annual grants for expenses of up to $2,500 (each) for book-related projects. The grant will cover expenses, such as travel, materials, and tuition fees. In the 2018-2019 academic year, Caxton Club grants were offered to Midwestern graduate students with projects in the following areas: bibliography, book arts, history of the book, literary studies, pring culture studies, and zines.
The mission of the American Association on Health and Disability is to contribute to national, state, and local efforts to promote health and wellness in people with disabilities and identify effective intervention strategies that reduce health disparities between people with disabilities and the general population. AAHD accomplishes its mission through research, education, and advocacy at the national, state, and community levels.
To that end, the AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability is awarded annually to deserving students with a disability who are pursuing undergraduate/graduate studies (at least a sophomore in college) at an accredited university in an area related to health and disability, including but not limited to public health, health promotion, disability studies, disability research, rehabilitation engineering, audiology, disability policy, special education, or other majors that impact quality of life for persons with disabilities.
Scholarships of up to $1,000 will be awarded in late January/early February 2019.
To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled full time as an undergraduate (freshman or beyond) or part or full time in graduate school, have a documented disability, and be able provide documentation of their disability. (Applicants who have not yet graduated from high school will not be considered.) In addition, applicants must be a citizen or legal resident of the United States enrolled in an accredited U.S. university. The Israeli Inter-University Academic Partnership in Russian and East European Studies is offering a small number of highly competitive postdoctoral fellowships in the field of Russian and East European Studies for the 2014-2015 academic year. These fellowships are offered to researchers across all disciplines in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences, broadly defined, and will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence. Postdoctoral fellowships are offered to young scholars who have received their PhD degree no earlier than 2009 and no later than June 2014. The fellows will be selected by an international academic committee and then placed in one of the partner universities: Bar-Ilan University, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, University of Haifa.
Postdoctoral fellows will be awarded up to 87,500 NIS per year (equivalent to approximately $25,000). In some cases, the fellowships will entail a teaching commitment at the host university.
The Botstiber Institute for Austrian-American Studies (BIAAS) is accepting applications for the Botstiber Fellowship in Austrian-American Studies. The fellowship will be awarded to a scholar or professional who seeks funds for a project that promotes an understanding of the historic relationship between Austria and the United States. A grant of up to $30,000 will be considered for support for salary, travel, or other necessary expenses.
