The Research on Education and Learning (REAL) program represents the substantive foci of three previous EHR programs: Research and Evaluation on Education in Science and Engineering (REESE), Research in Disabilities Education (RDE), and Research on Gender in Science and Engineering (GSE). What is distinctive about the new REAL program is the emphasis placed on the accumulation of robust evidence to inform efforts to (a) understand, (b) build theory to explain, and (c) suggest interventions (and innovations) to address persistent challenges in STEM interest, education, learning, and participation. The program supports advances in research on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) learning and education by fostering efforts to explore all aspects of education research from foundational knowledge to improvements in STEM learning and learning contexts, both formal and informal, from childhood through adulthood, for all groups, and from the earliest developmental stages of life through participation in the workforce, resulting in increased public understanding of science and engineering. The REAL program will fund research on, human learning in STEM; learning in STEM learning environments, and broadening participation research.

This program aims to provide all U.S. students the opportunity to participate in computer science (CS) and computational thinking (CT) education in their schools at the preK-12 levels. With this solicitation, the National Science Foundation (NSF) focuses on researcher-practitioner partnerships (RPPs) that foster the research and development needed to bring CS and CT to all schools. Specifically, this solicitation aims to provide high school teachers with the preparation, professional development (PD) and ongoing support that they need to teach rigorous computer science courses; preK-8 teachers with the instructional materials and preparation they need to integrate CS and CT into their teaching; and schools and districts the resources needed to define and evaluate multi-grade pathways in CS and CT.

The American Educational Research Association is accepting applications for its AERA Minority Dissertation Fellowship in Education Research. The annual program provides support for doctoral dissertation research, to advance education research by outstanding minority graduate students, and to improve the quality and diversity of university faculties. The fellowship offers doctoral fellowships to enhance the competitiveness of outstanding minority scholars for academic appointments at major research universities. It supports fellows conducting education research and provides mentoring and guidance toward the completion of their doctoral studies. The dissertation study should focus on an education research topic such as high-stakes testing; ethnic studies/curriculum; tracking; STEM development; measurement of achievement and opportunity gaps; English-language learners; or bullying and restorative justice. Applicants can come from graduate programs and departments in education research, the humanities, or social or behavioral science disciplinary or interdisciplinary fields such as economics, political science, psychology, or sociology.

The purpose of this Dear Colleague Letter is to alert the community to the continued opportunities to submit proposals to conduct research previously solicited by NSF's Research in Disabilities Education (RDE) and Research on Gender in Science and Engineering (GSE) programs. The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this OBSSR and participating institutes and centers R25 program is to support educational activities that develop cross-cutting methodologies and analytics that are needed to more rapidly advance behavioral and social sciences research (BSSR) and are not already well addressed by existing educational programs widely available to the research community. Methodological domains of focus include but are not limited to innovative data collection methodologies and analytic techniques, analysis and linking of big data, or needed but underused designs to advance research across the translational spectrum. Priority will be given to courses that address an important and cross-cutting educational need, that fill a gap in the field not already well addressed by other opportunities and that include a plan for increased reach and sustainability of the training both during and beyond the funding period. Over the period of support, it is expected that the course will be refined, improved, and sufficiently well-documented and resourced for dissemination of the program when the period of support ends. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Courses for Skills Development

Any area of education related to the radiologic sciences is eligible for Education Scholar Grant support. Projects may include, but are not limited to: advanced training in the discipline of education, possibly resulting in an advanced degree/certificate (development of teachers and educational leaders); development, dissemination and evaluation of printed or electronic educational materials; research of teaching methods and evaluation processes; education in emerging nations; medical student, resident, fellow, CME participant, allied health professional student education. RSNA and the Association of University Radiologists (AUR) have collaborated on a joint award beginning in 2013. This co-sponsored Education Scholar Grant will leverage funds to support additional projects in radiology education. Interested applicants should apply through the standard application process.

Beginning in FY2015, Congress appropriated $1,000,000 for the WWSDP to fund a competitive grants program. This program continues in FY2018 under the authority of the Defense Health Program, Operations & Maintenance, therapeutic service dog training program. The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) is authorized by 10 U.S.C. 2113(g)(1)(A) to make grants to any nonprofit entity. Historically, USU has solicited grant applications from nonprofit institutions committed to connecting service dogs with service members and veterans. USU obligated $1,000,000 in FY2015, $5,000,000 in FY2016, and $5,000,000 in FY2017 to carry out this program. USU intends to award multiple, 12-month grants (subject to availability of funding) to eligible nonprofit organizations to continue this program in FY2018.

 The purpose of this FOA is to support investigator-initiated R01 applications that will inform our understanding of the typical and atypical patterns of language and literacy development of dual language learners (DLLs) in the United States. Applicants are encouraged to take advantage of advances in the language sciences and related fields to identify and clarify specific cognitive, linguistic, neurobiological, and sociocultural factors associated with normal and impaired language and literacy acquisition in young DLL populations.     

The purpose of the Low-Cost, Short-Duration Evaluation of Education Interventions and Low-Cost, Short-Duration Evaluation of Special Education Interventions grant programs is to support rigorous evaluations of education interventions implemented by SEAs and LEAs that have important implications for improving student education outcomes.
