An initiative of the National Security Education Program, the Boren Awards provide funding for United States undergraduate and graduate students to study in regions of the world critical to U.S. interests, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Boren scholars and fellows represent a variety of academic backgrounds but are all interested in studying less commonly taught languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili.

The New Netherland Research Center (NNRC), a joint endeavor of the New Netherland Institute (NNI) and the Office of Cultural Education, New York State Education Department (NYSED/OCE), with financial support from the government of the Netherlands, announces the NNRC Student Scholar in Residence Research Grant. The grant covers a period of up to three months in residence and provides a stipend of $5,000. A time frame for fulfilling the grant requirements will be established in consultation with the director of NNI. No housing, travel funds, or health insurance are provided. Applications are due by June 1.

Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science (NSF INCLUDES) is a comprehensive national initiative designed to enhance U.S. leadership in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) discoveries and innovations focused on NSF's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and broadening participation in these fields. The initiative is developing a National Network composed of NSF INCLUDES Design and Development Launch Pilots, NSF INCLUDES Alliances, NSF-funded broadening participation projects, other relevant NSF-funded projects, scholars engaged in broadening participation research, and other organizations that support the development of talent from all sectors of society to build the STEM workforce. To facilitate the Network's operation, the program is soliciting proposals for a NSF INCLUDES Coordination Hub that will drive and support the work of the NSF INCLUDES National Network over the lifecycle of the initiative by: (a) promoting the NSF INCLUDES guiding vision and strategy; (b) developing a collaborative infrastructure to support the activities of the various entities partnering in the NSF INCLUDES National Network; (c) fostering progress among Network partners toward shared models, measurement practices, and evaluation criteria; (d) communicating the discoveries of and generating enthusiasm for the NSF INCLUDES National Network; and (e) advancing the expansion and scale of the NSF INCLUDES National Network by connecting expertise from multiple sectors and other private and public funders.

Applications for the Cushwa Center's five research funding programs are due December 31, 2018.  Grants and awards fund research in repositories at the University of Notre Dame and beyond.  Research Travel Grants assist scholars visiting the Notre Dame Archives and Hesburgh Libraries.  Peter R. D'Agostino Research Travel Grants support research in Roman archives for projects on U.S. Catholic history.  Mother Theodore Guerin Research Travel Grants support research focused on Catholic women in modern history.  Hesburgh Research Travel Grants support projects using the Theodore M. Hesburgh Papers and related collections at the Notre Dame Archives.  Hibernian Research Awards provide travel funds for the scholarly study of Irish and Irish American history.  

The purpose of this competitive undergraduate scholarship grant program is to increase the multicultural diversity of the food and agricultural scientific and professional workforce, and advance the educational achievement of all Americans by providing competitive grants to colleges and universities.

Special Collections at Smith College offer four fellowships. The Sophia Smith Collection and the Smith College Archives offer the Margaret Storrs Grierson, Friends of the Smith College Libraries, and Carel B. Germain Fellowships awarded in an annual competition. Scholars will hold awards of $2,500, intended to support research visits of four to six weeks.  One Mortimer Fellowship of $2,500 is awarded annually for research in the rare book collection.

NIJ seeks investigator-initiated proposals in two funding categories under the W.E.B. Du Bois Program of Research on Crime: (1) Scholars who are advanced in their careers; and (2) Fellows who are early in their careers. The program supports research that places particular emphasis on the intersections of race, crime, violence and the administration of justice within the United States. It furthers the Department’s mission by advancing knowledge regarding issues deemed critical by the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Course Hero-Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching will support rising stars in the academy who love teaching, demonstrate excellence as educators, and are making their mark as exceptional researchers, poised to shape their fields. Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

The Albert Einstein Fellowship supports creative, interdisciplinary thought by giving young scholars the chance to pursue research outside their previous area of work. Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences. Applications for 2019 should include a CV, a two-page project proposal, and two letters of recommendation. All documents must be received by April 15, 2018. At the end of the fellowship period, the fellow will be expected to present his or her project in a public lecture at the Einstein Forum and at the Daimler and Benz Foundation. The Einstein Fellowship is not intended for applicants who wish to complete an academic study they have already begun. A successful application must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the proposed project, as well as the superior intellectual development of the applicant. It is not relevant whether the applicant has begun working toward, or currently holds, a PhD. The proposed project need not be entirely completed during the time of the fellowship, but can be the beginning of a longer project. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO FELLOWSHIPS WILL BE GIVEN FOR DISSERTATION RESEARCH. THE PROPOSED PROJECT MUST BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT IN CONTENT, AND PREFERABLY FIELD AND FORM, FROM THE APPLICANT'S PREVIOUS WORK.

Founded in 1962, the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music is dedicated to promoting understanding of the life and works of composers Kurt Weill and Marc Blitzstein and preserving the legacies of Weill and his wife, actress-singer Lotte Lenya. Since 1984, the foundation has awarded more than five hundred grants totaling $3 million to organizations and scholars worldwide in support of excellence in the presentation and study of Kurt Weill's compositions. In 2013, the Blitzstein catalogue joined the list of works eligible for support. The foundation awards grants to individuals and nonprofit organizations for performances of musical works by Weill and Blitzstein, for scholarly research pertaining to Weill, Lenya, Marc Blitzstein, and for relevant educational initiatives. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for projects and performances taking place on or after January 1, 2018, and before June 30, 2019.

Michigan State University Libraries invites applications for research grants for the summer of 2020. The grants are intended to help scholars who live more than 100 miles from East Lansing whose research would benefit from on-site access to the rich primary source collections housed in MSU Libraries' Special Collections. The 2020 grants are made possible through the generous support of Char Mollison and MSU Libraries Special Collections Endowment. Five grants of $3,000 will be awarded based on the overall promise of the research project and the significance of MSU's Special Collections to the work. The on-site research period must run for at least one week between May 1 and September 30 of the year awarded. Research strengths of MSU Special Collections are deep and varied, including an outstanding comic art collection; American radicalism on the extreme right and left; extensive holdings on Latino and Chicano activism and artists; popular culture; zines, Africana; exceptional rare book holdings in cookery, the history of science, veterinary medicine, Italian unification, conduct books; one of the country's oldest LGBTQ+ collections; a peerless collection documenting the contemporary men's movements; and the papers of numerous Michigan writers including Richard Ford, and Diane Wakoski. Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Eligible projects usually result in articles, monographs, books, digital materials and publications, archaeological site reports, translations, or editions. Projects must not result solely in the collection of data; instead they must also incorporate analysis and interpretation. Summer Stipends support continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two consecutive months. Summer Stipends support projects at any stage of development.

We welcome applications from a broad range of fields and perspectives. The strength of our fellowship program is its diversity. The following areas are of particular interest: - Radcliffe supports engaged scholarship. We welcome applications from scholars, artists, and practitioners proposing innovative work that confronts pressing social and policy issues and seeking to engage audiences beyond academia. - We welcome proposals relevant to the Institute's focus areas, which include: * Law, education, and justice * Youth leadership and civic engagement * Legacies of slavery  - Reflecting Radcliffe's unique history and institutional legacy, we welcome proposals that focus on women, gender, and society or draw on the Schlesinger Library's rich collections.  - Interdisciplinary exchange is a hallmark of the Radcliffe Fellowship, and we welcome proposals that take advantage of our uniquely diverse intellectual community by engaging with concepts and ideas that cross disciplinary boundaries.

Under the call, grants of up to $50,000 over up to three years will be awarded in support of education research projects that contribute to an understanding of the rapid shifts in education in this time of crisis and change. The foundation is especially interested in studies focused on understanding and disrupting the reproduction and deepening of educational inequality caused by the crisis, as well as research projects that are working to reimagine educational opportunities in these times. The foundation is interested in proposals at all levels and in all settings of learning, including early childhood, higher education, and in schools, families, and communities, as well as studies that seek to understand the situated experiences of non-dominant groups, including English-language learners, immigrants, minoritized communities, Indigenous communities, students with disabilities, highly mobile and institutionalized youth (e.g., foster youth or those in youth prisons), and rural communities. The program will support proposals from multiple disciplinary and methodological perspectives, both domestically and internationally, as well as from scholars at various stages in their careers.

The geosciences continue to lag behind other STEM fields in creating a diverse community of researchers, scholars, and practitioners. Strategies employed to improve the number of women in the geosciences have not been successful in "moving the needle" for the recruitment and retention of geoscientists from historically excluded and underrepresented groups like people of color and those with disabilities. In 2016, NSF launched the GOLD Program (Geoscience Opportunities for Leadership in Diversity) with the mission to achieve greater and more systemic diversity by creating a network of diversity and inclusion "champions" who can generate greater implementation of evidence-based best practices and resources. While geoscience community members generally agree upon the importance and ideals of broadening participation, most do not have the skills and competencies that allow them to be effective leaders in diversity. To expand the reach of current GOLD efforts, bring to scale related diversity activities in the geosciences, or develop unique approaches for greater inclusion in the geoscience education and research community, NSF welcomes submission of supplemental funding requests, conference proposals, EAGER proposals, and RCNs.
