The Foundation awards travel grants to individual scholars to support historical research on Venice and the former Venetian empire, and for the study of contemporary Venetian society and culture. Disciplines of the humanities and social sciences are eligible areas of study, including (but not limited to) archaeology, architecture, art, bibliography, economics, history, history of science, law, literature, music, political science, religion, and theater.One of the Venetian Research Program grants awarded will be designated as the Henry A. Millon Award in Art and Architectural History. Applicants and grantees are advised to plan for the added difficulties surrounding travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are restrictions on both international and domestic travel. Additionally, access to archives and other research institutions can be difficult to ascertain and continue to change. Grantees should consult the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control, World Health Organization and the Italian health authorities when planning their travel and research. To support scholars, the Foundation has lengthened the grant period to a two-year timeframe. Grantees will be able to adjust their travel plans and submit an updated itinerary. Each will be asked to confirm the accessibility of their research sites. Grant payments will be provided close to each scholar's research period. We hope that this added flexibility will allow scholars to stay safe while moving forward with their important work.

The Smith Richardson Foundation seeks to contribute to important public debates and to address serious public policy challenges facing the United States as well as help ensure the vitality of social, economic, and governmental institutions, and assist with the development of effective policies that enable the United States to compete internationally and advance U.S. interests and values abroad. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for its annual Strategy and Policy Fellows grant competition. Through the program, at least research grants of $60,000 will be awarded in support of research by young scholars and policy thinkers working in the area(s) of American foreign policy, international relations, international security, military policy, and diplomatic and military history that leads to the writing of a book.

The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that support Religious Freedom globally. "Religious freedom" refers to the right set out in Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, including the freedom to adopt a religion or beliefs, change your beliefs, practice and teach your beliefs (which may include through publications, public and private speech, and the display of religious attire or symbols), gather in community with others to worship and observe your beliefs, and teach your beliefs to your children. Proposed programming must be responsive to restrictions on religious freedom and must be in line with the U.S. Government's religious freedom, democracy, governance, and human rights goals. Applicants will be responsible for ensuring program activities and products are implemented in accordance with the Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution. DRL programming will engage youth to foster an environment of greater inter-communal and intra-communal respect and peaceful coexistence among religious communities in Pakistan promoting the rights of all people to live free from discrimination, abuse, and violence on account of their religious identity, practices, or affiliation. Proposals should be gender inclusive and include religious minorities.

MENA governments - especially in Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, and Tunisia - have undertaken important reform initiatives to modernize their public administrations and pass access to information laws. Several have applied to join the Open Government Partnership (OGP), an international initiative that aims to leverage capabilities of new technologies to strengthen participatory governance and fight corruption. Further actions are required to sustain this progress and implement open government principles that foster civil society collaboration with government. This project will assist governments in developing action plans to improve management and governance activities such as: budgeting, human resources management, regulatory practices, public integrity, public procurement, digital government, open government and data, risk management, and innovations. By focusing on public governance areas and creating inclusive economies and societies, this project will guide governments to benchmark their countries' progress on public sector reforms at the national and regional levels, and to compare them against international standards. Additionally, it will create the first MENA long-term strategic partnership and governance network for policy dialogue and exchange of good practices. Finally, it will deliver ad hoc policy recommendations to advance public sector reform agendas in specific sectors at the national or regional level with a focus on policies pertaining to women and youth.

Research proposals are expected to be theoretically motivated, conceptually precise, methodologically rigorous, and empirically oriented. Substantive areas include, but are not limited to, American government and politics, comparative government and politics, international relations, political behavior, political economy, and political institutions. In recent years, program awards have supported research projects on bargaining processes; campaigns and elections, electoral choice, and electoral systems; citizen support in emerging and established democracies; democratization, political change, and regime transitions; domestic and international conflict; international political economy; party activism; political psychology and political tolerance. The Program also has supported research experiences for undergraduate students and infrastructural activities, including methodological innovations, in the discipline.

A free and open Indo-Pacific is crucial for global stability in the 21st century. This vision for the Indo-Pacific is not unique to the United States, but is shared by Japan and many other nations in the region. However, there are many challenges to realizing this vision, including territorial and maritime disputes, differing economic approaches, historical concerns, and various types of governance. Therefore, multilateral cooperation is needed to address these challenges and ensure economic prosperity, good governance, and peace and security become a reality for all in the Indo-Pacific. The Embassy welcomes proposals that address these issues and is particularly interested in supporting the following priority areas: maritime security, economic prosperity, civil society, disaster relief, health assistance, and rule of law. The program needs to be designed to strengthen ties between U.S. and Japanese institutions through the inclusion of U.S. experts. The program should also include participants from other countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

Applicants may request up to $55,000 for projects aimed at fostering or expanding U.S.-Russian ties. All project activities and deliverables should be completed within twelve months and end before August 31, 2021. Projects proposing U.S.-Russia partnerships between previously unaffiliated organizations will be given priority consideration. The Security and Preparedness (SAP) Programsupports basic scientific research that advances knowledge and understanding of issues broadly related to global and national security. Research proposals are evaluated on the criteria of intellectual merit and broader impacts; the proposed projects are expected to be theoretically motivated, conceptually precise, methodologically rigorous, and empirically oriented. Substantive areas include (but are not limited to) international relations, global and national security, human security,political violence, state stability, conflict processes, regime transition, international and comparative political economy, and peace science. National Science Foundation's Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI) assists in the acquisition or development of major research instrumentation. This program seeks to improve the quality and expand the scope of research and research training in science and engineering, and to foster the integration of research and education by providing instrumentation for research-intensive learning environments. The MRI program also encourages the shared inter- and/or intra-organizational use of the acquired research instrumentation. For more information, please consult the program's guidelines. Miami University may submit up to three MRI proposals (up to two that request between $100,000 and $1 million and no more than one that requests between $1 million and $4 million) on which Miami is either the lead or a partner institution. To facilitate the selection of our submissions to NSF, we have set a deadline of October 28, 2019 to receive preliminary MRI proposals for internal review. You are required to provide a preliminary proposal regardless of whether you were selected as an institutional submission in previous years.

The DePaul University Humanities Center (DHC) is inviting applications for Visiting Fellows for 2020-2021. All applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent, and research projects must be in the humanities. International applications will be considered. Fellowships may run for nine months (from September 2020 to June 2021) or six months (from January 2021 to June 2021). During their tenure, Visiting Fellows are required to make an intellectual contribution to the DePaul community and participate in the programming and activities of the DHC and the university. We are especially interested in applications that involve a project around the theme of "Age," broadly construed. All applications regardless of topic will be considered, but preference will be given to applicants who draw connections between their proposed project and the 2020-21 DHC theme, "Age." NB: The DHC will be hosting events that touch on such topics as the analog age and the era of cassette tapes; child liberation; birth & infancy; the juvenile justice system; the gendering of age; childhood, games, and gaming; and sexuality and privacy in the golden years. Ultimately, we are interested in interdisciplinary, creative, innovative projects that take up the theme of "Age."

The Council for European Studies is this year holding its 50th Anniversary meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland from the 22nd to the 24th of June 2020. The CES membership has traditionally been primarily centered around the Global North. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Council for European Studies (CES) and the World Society Foundation (WSF) are committed to engaging participants from traditionally underrepresented  communities by awarding a limited number of travel grants covering airfare and accommodation to researchers from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The year 2020 marks a moment for reflection, given recent and ongoing changes in the boundaries of European citizenship, the fragile institutional arrangements of the European social model, the postcolonial analysis of Europe in the world, the population dynamics that define who is European, Europe's changing relationships with other regions and parts of world society, including the Global South, and the configuration of global hegemony.

Program Objectives: The U.S. Department of State Office of the Assistance Coordinator for Europe and Eurasia (EUR/ACE) has launched the seventh round of the EDCP to continue building U.S. foreign assistance partnerships with 11 emerging donor governments in Central and Eastern Europe: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Through the EDCP initiative, the United States builds partnerships with these new donor countries by co-financing joint foreign assistance activities aimed at sharing the EDGs' transition and EU integration experiences with Ukraine.
