The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide opportunities for eligible small business concerns (SBCs) to submit STTR grant applications to develop interactive digital media science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) resources that address student career choice and health and medicine topics for: (1) pre-kindergarten to grade 12 (P-12) students and pre- and in-service teachers ("Teachers") or (2) Informal science education (ISE), i.e., outside the classroom, audiences. Interactive digital media (IDM) are defined as products and services on digital computer-based systems which respond to the user's actions by presenting content such as text, moving image, animation, video, audio, and video games. There is a large body of evidence that IDM technology has the potential to support learning in a variety of contexts from primary and secondary schools, to universities, adult education and workplace training. IDM is widely used to train, educate, and encourage behavioral changes in a virtual world format where progressive learning, feedback on success and user control are combined into an interactive and engaging experience. It is anticipated that this STTR FOA will facilitate the translation of new or existing health and medicine-based, P-12 STEM curricula and museum exhibits into educational Interactive Digital Media STEM (IDM STEM) resources that will provide a hands-on, inquiry-based and learning-by-doing experience for students, teachers and the community.

The Fellowship Program expects to award two new Ph.D. Fellowships each year to students who are interested in careers related to the development and implementation of quantitative methods for assessing the economics of the conservation and management of living marine resources. Fellows will work on thesis problems of public interest and relevance to National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) under the guidance of NMFS mentors at participating NMFS Science Centers or Offices. The NMFS-Sea Grant Fellowship in Marine Resource Economics meets NOAA's Healthy Oceans goal of "Marine fisheries, habitats, biodiversity sustained with healthy and productive ecosystems." The expected annual award per Fellow will be $46,000 (Federal plus matching funds), which is funded jointly by NOAA Fisheries and Sea Grant.

The NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program is designed to encourage the development and implementation of bold, new, and potentially transformative models for STEM graduate education training. The NRT program seeks proposals that explore ways for graduate students in research-based master's and doctoral degree programs to develop the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to pursue a range of STEM careers. The program is dedicated to effective training of STEM graduate students in high priority interdisciplinary research areas, through the use of a comprehensive traineeship model that is innovative, evidence-based, and aligned with changing workforce and research needs. For FY2018, proposals are requested in any interdisciplinary research theme of national priority, with special emphasis on two high priority areas: (1) Harnessing the Data Revolution (HDR) and (2) Innovations at the Nexus of Food, Energy, and Water Systems (INFEWS). HDR is expected to continue as a priority research area for FY2019 and FY2020 competitions, along with a new priority area to be announced in 2018. The NRT program addresses workforce development, emphasizing broad participation, and institutional capacity building needs in graduate education. Strategic collaborations with the private sector, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government agencies, national laboratories, field stations, teaching and learning centers, informal science centers, and academic partners are encouraged. NRT especially welcomes proposals that will pair well with the efforts of NSF INCLUDES to develop STEM talent from all sectors and groups in our society (https://www.nsf.gov/news/special_reports/nsfincludes/index.jsp). Collaborations are encouraged between NRT proposals and existing NSF INCLUDES projects, provided the collaboration strengthens both projects.

This U24 funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is a part of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) initiative to establish the "NCI Awardee Skills Development Consortium (NASDC)."  The overarching goal of this initiative is to provide opportunities for current NCI grantees, especially those who are junior faculty (e.g., assistant professors, instructors, research scientists, or equivalent), to enhance their skills in areas that are critical for establishing and maintaining successful independent academic cancer research careers. This U24 FOA solicits applications for a Coordinating Center to address the NASDC logistics and evaluation needs in serving the NASDC Research Education Short Courses that will be supported by a companion UE5 FOA (RFA-CA-19-010). 

Under this solicitation EAR/IF will consider proposals for Laboratory Technician Support to provide for optimal and efficient operation of advanced instrumentation, analytical protocol development, and user training for Earth science research instrumentation. Technician support duties that promote human resource development and education are expected to be an integral part of proposals. Efforts to support participation of underrepresented groups in laboratory and/or field instrument use and training are encouraged as part of any described technician's duties.. Proposals from early career (tenure track but untenured) lead investigators are also encouraged. Such proposals will be given due consideration as part of the Broader Impacts merit review criterion.

The Innovations in Graduate Education (IGE) program is designed to encourage the development and implementation of bold, new, and potentially transformative approaches to STEM graduate education training. The program seeks proposals that explore ways for graduate students in research-based master's and doctoral degree programs to develop the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to pursue a range of STEM careers.

The Innovations in Graduate Education (IGE) program is designed to encourage the development and implementation of bold, new, and potentially transformative approaches to STEM graduate education training. The program seeks proposals that explore ways forgraduate students in research-based master’s and doctoral degree programs to develop the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to pursue a range of STEM careers. IGE focuses on projects aimed at piloting, testing, and validating innovative and potentially transformative approaches to graduate education. IGE projects are intendedto generate the knowledge required for their customization, implementation, and broader adoption. The program supports testing of novel models or activities with high potential to enrich and extend the knowledge base on effective graduate education approaches. The program addresses both workforce development, emphasizing broad participation, and institutional capacity building needs in graduate education. Strategic collaborations with the private sector, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government agencies, national laboratories, field stations, teaching and learning centers, informal science centers, and academic partners are encouraged.

To that end, CASJE is inviting applications for research that can make a difference in how Jewish education is practiced. Two grants of up to $30,000 will be awarded in support of time-concentrated research connected to the consortium's areas of focus, which include Jewish educational leadership, Jewish early-childhood education, Hebrew language education, Israel education, and the career trajectories of Jewish educators. Only empirical research will be funded; conceptual inquiries or literature reviews are not eligible for funding.

The mission of the Consortium for Applied Studies in Jewish Education (CASJE) is to stimulate and support the work of researchers, practitioners, and funders who believe that evidence should drive decision-making in Jewish education. To that end, CASJE is inviting applications for research that can make a difference in how Jewish education is practiced. Two grants of up to $30,000 will be awarded in support of time-concentrated research connected to the consortium's areas of focus, which include Jewish educational leadership, Jewish early-childhood education, Hebrew language education, Israel education, and the career trajectories of Jewish educators. Under the call, grants of up to $50,000 over up to three years will be awarded in support of education research projects that contribute to an understanding of the rapid shifts in education in this time of crisis and change. The foundation is especially interested in studies focused on understanding and disrupting the reproduction and deepening of educational inequality caused by the crisis, as well as research projects that are working to reimagine educational opportunities in these times. The foundation is interested in proposals at all levels and in all settings of learning, including early childhood, higher education, and in schools, families, and communities, as well as studies that seek to understand the situated experiences of non-dominant groups, including English-language learners, immigrants, minoritized communities, Indigenous communities, students with disabilities, highly mobile and institutionalized youth (e.g., foster youth or those in youth prisons), and rural communities. The program will support proposals from multiple disciplinary and methodological perspectives, both domestically and internationally, as well as from scholars at various stages in their careers.

The Agreement is entered into for the purposes of educating youth about the valuable resources in Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the continued role they can play in the stewardship of this and other national parks. The project was developed in an effort to provide local high school and college students an opportunity to learn resource stewardship ethics by participating in career enhancing activities that promote leadership and participatory citizenship qualities in the youth.

The Kenneth B. and Mamie P. Clark Fund supports research and demonstration activities that promote the understanding of the relationship between self-identity and academic achievement with an emphasis on children in grade levels K-8. This grant will alternate every other year between an early career psychologist and a graduate student. The 2017 grant will support a graduate student.

A single grant of up to $15,000 will be awarded to a mid-career professional whose research project relates to the appreciation, interpretation, preservation, study, and teaching of European art, architecture, and related disciplines, from antiquity to the early nineteenth century, in the context of historic preservation in the United States. Potential Kress Fellow projects could include the exploration of shared European and American influences in style, design, materials, construction techniques, building types, conservation and interpretation methodologies, philosophical and theoretical attitudes, and other factors applicable to preservation in both Europe and America.

The American Psychological Foundation provides financial support for innovative research and programs that enhance the power of psychology to elevate the human condition and advance human potential, both today and for generations to come. As part of this mission, APF is accepting applications for its APF Trauma Psychology Grant. Through the annual program, a single grant of up to $3,000 will be awarded in support innovative work aimed at alleviating trauma. To be eligible, applicants must be an early-career psychologist (no more than ten years postdoctoral); be affiliated with a nonprofit charitable, educational, or scientific institution, or governmental entity operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes; have a demonstrated knowledge of trauma and trauma research; have demonstrated competence and capacity to execute the proposed work; and, if human participants are involved, have IRB approval from his/her host institution before funding can be awarded.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH.  The over-arching goal of this NIDDK R25 program is to support educational activities that enhance the diversity of the biomedical, behavioral and clinical research workforce.  This R25 program encourages Professional Societies to design and implement educational programs with the goal of recruiting of individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue careers in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences workforce. Applications from Professional Societies supporting the NIDDK mission areas are encouraged to develop educational programs aimed at recruiting talented , fellows, and junior faculty from groups underrepresented in biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences research in the NIDDK mission areas. Professional Societies should propose an educational program based upon an educational experiment which includes a diversity management plan for the Society which should enhance the diversity of the biomedical research workforce, and the pool of individuals from under represented groups in the organization's programs and leadership.

The purpose of the NINDS Faculty Development Award to Promote Diversity in Neuroscience Research (K01) is to diversify the pool of independent neuroscience research investigators by providing junior faculty with research cost support, protected research time and career stage appropriate professional development mentorship in neuroscience research. Individuals from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research are eligible for support under this award if they have doctoral research degrees (Ph.D. or equivalent) and are in the first 3 years of a faculty tenure track or equivalent position at the time of application.
